12/15/20112:00 PMMade a cute video today of Nibbler at the feeder making various squeaky sounds. Around 8PM I found him in his gourd trying to keep dry. Took him in for a little bit, gave him some dry treats and then hung him out again.
12/14/20114:00 PMSaw Nibbler at the feeder and took out a pecan for him. I took him inside and after I entered the door he ran down and out the open door. He apparently wants nothing to do with being inside.
12/13/201110:00 AMI found Nibbler this morning in a burying mood. I sacrificed around ten pecans to get some cute footage of him burying nuts. I posted two videos of the encounter today.
12/12/201111:00 AMSaw Nibbler hanging out with the other two siblings. I figure that this is who he has been staying with. Nibbler appears to spend a lot more time on the ground compared to the other critters. He gets around in the trees fabulously well but he's on the ground a lot doing stuff. This morning I went out and watched him digging in the ground. I gave him a pecan, and instead of eating it, he ran to the middle of the yard and dug a hole and buryied it. I was amazed to see this happen. So naturally by the time I am able to grab the video camera, he's back up the tree and the show is over.
12/11/20113:00 PMI was out this afternoon troubleshooting some failed wiring for lights in the back yard trees. While I was focusing on the outlet box I had apart at the base of a tree trunk, I heard a sound and looked up to find Nibbler an inch from my face. He came down to see what I was doing. I said hello, gave him a kiss and he jumped to me. I took him in for a quick pecan and grapes and went back out to watch him enjoy them. Later on after I was finished with the wiring he came down again. I watched in horror as an adult squirrel followed him down and began attacking him. He was nimble and quick and escaped towards me but not without getting a bite on his rear end. I gave him another treat and a few kisses and watched over him as he fed a little on seed. It is sad that he has to toughen up and deal with territorial family. I figure this will eventually weaken my ability to interface with him. He may not always come to me when I call him down, but he does come sometimes and he seems to enjoy the treats, a little bit of attention and knowing that I am still here for him. I hope we can maintain contact because having him as a pet not in a cage is simply wonderful.
12/09/20119:00 AMJust before nine I went out to see who was feeding. It looked like one of the other small squirrels so I stayed about 10 feet back. The squirrel jumped to the tree, down to the ground, over to the nearby planter and then up to me. Hi Nibbler! He came to say hi to me. I took him inside for a bit to get a pecan and to say hi to the rest of the family. Mom cringed, Eric got a few jumps and then Nibbler decided to run down to the floor to leave out the closed door and he smacked his head into the glass. This told me that he didnt want to be inside so I took him out to the tree. He hesitated and stayed on me and finished eating half of the pecan. I gave him a big hug and a kiss and he ran down me to the ground and began exploring the area. I stayed out for a bit watching him canvas the yard and then he ran quickly to the highest and furthest outer point of the tree and stayed there watching, almost as if he wanted to go more or even fly off like the birds.

I am glad he came to say hello today. Mom says that animals dont forget and that his encouters may dwindle but he will remember me and should come to say hello when we bump into each other.

I caught Nibbler feeding around 3:30PM and said hello and offered a few seeds before he darted up the tree. He heard a noise from the alley and wouldnt you know he went up just high enough to clear the fence to see what it was. This squirrel really is curious, smart and fun to watch.
12/08/20114:00 PMNibbler allowed me to caress him while he was at the feeder but then he disappeared. He did not stay in the gourd this night.
12/07/20117:00 AMI released Nibbler around 7 AM this morning and got some video. It was cold. Nibbler took off. He did not stay in the gourd this night.
12/06/117:00 AMNibbler was awake early after a solid night sleep and he wanted out. Eric allowed a jump and then went out to the tree to deposit the critter. His gourd was hung again. I picked up his gourd around 6:00PM with content of one critter. He's slumbering inside again on this of coldest nights. He was very thirsty probably being that outside water was frozen all day.
12/05/11---Nibbler wont come to me. He seems very happy being away. I have come near but then he runs. After dark I did bring his nest inside so he could be warm on this cold cold night.
12/04/20114:00 PMI collected Nibbler from the feeder. He didnt seem to want to go with me. I offered him food and warmth inside but all he wanted to do was go back out. 4:30 he let himself out the back door and took off for the trees. It is going to be a below freezing night tonight. I hope he can find warmth.
12/03/20118:30 AMI released Nibbler at 8:30 after his breakfast. I went back out at 10:30 and collected him as he was being chased by larger squirrels. He's back outside again 30 minutes later. I interfaced with him one or two more times in the afternoon and finally went out and found him in his gourd nest for the very first time. It's raining very hard tonight but I think he is mostly dry and warm in his gourd.
12/02/2011 2:00 PM I called Nibbler down from the trees at 2 and brought him in. He ate three sweet potato chunks, two grapes, quarter of a monkey biscuit and seeds and then slumbered. He didnt seem to want to go back out so he stayed overnight in his purse on the mantle. I cuddled with him some and as always he was so gentle with my finger tips.
12/01/2011 2:06 PM Nibbler ignored my calling at 10am. All squirrels looked to be frantically removing tree leaves for nesting. I successfully called Nibbler down from the tree at 2. He took a lot of water and feed and I let him go at 2:30.
11/30/2011 9:30 AM Nibbler jumped to me from the tree. Went in and fed and napped. Released at 4pm.
11/29/2011 1:00 PM Found Nibbler sleeping in purse hanging on tree. Brought in, fed and napped. Released around 4 pm.
11/28/2011 8:00 AM Collected Nibbler in the morning and fed and napped. Released around 1PM so I could go to Van Alstyne.
11/27/2011 10:00 AM I Found Nibbler running along the fence and he jumped to me with little effort on my part. Took him inside and fed and napped. He was hungry.
11/15/2011 8:00 AM Nibbler ran out back door and up a tree not to be seen anymore. He basically released himself from my care.
10/15/2011PMI started with a syringe but now I am successfully bottle and nipple feeding the young squirrel. Research suggests to me that the critter is around 5 weeks old.
10/12/2011PMI was out working in the garage and heard a very loud squeal/scream which I assumed was one of the dogs since they play and bark and squeal often enough. Mom was out with them and I next heard her scream for me so I assumed that a dog had gotten hurt. Turns out that she spotted the tiny baby squirrel that was about to become dog fodder. I collected the critter, fed it and tried to give it back to any of the squirrels with no success. So I began to take care of it.
