In my opinion, a sugar glider is the best small pet I've yet to own. Since I am a neat freak and being the anal person that I am, I can easily meet the basic need of owning a sugar glider. Now combine this characteristic with the love for all animal makes me very compatible with the sugar glider. I had to wait a year until I was able to get a sugar glider. It began with an immediate fascination with them when I first saw one at Herpetons pet store. I continued to read up on them and every time I went in the pet store just look around, I went to see the sugar gliders first in hopes that they were up and about. In the beginning I couldn't afford to obtain one with me being a college student and all. But when I ran into some money a year later, I purchased one right away on Feb. 28, 98. Till this day my fascination is still as strong if not more. I even plan to get another in the near future. Keep in mind that just because its compatible with my personality and ways doesn't mean it will be compatible with you.

Hear are some things to think about and think about how much time it might take:
1. daily preparation of food
2. daily cleaning of food bowls
3. daily fresh supply of water
4. first week or two committed to bonding process
5. daily play time
6. once every week or two of cage cleaning
7. clipping of sugar glider nails when needed
8. any visits to a vet if needed

If you can fit all of the above into your lifestyle and schedule then you will most likely have no problem owning a glider. Some of my friends think that it's a lot of pain to do all of the above, but I don't even see it that way because the rewards and incentives can be seen in the eyes of my glider. The keywords are committment and patience, but it starts with fascination and motivation which has to always be there. With the combination of these, I believe the reward is a well bonded and lifelong companion.
