Stacy, This board has always had a problem with attitudes in the past, But there have been a lot of changes made, we are trying very hard to keep the board moderated, so that things don't get out of hand as was before. Sugarglider.net is a good board as this one is. The main difference between the two, it that there you must register your name. We discussed doing this here and thought that wouldn't be necessary. There was a time, and not too long ago that there was no moderation on this base at all, we had a lot of people come in just to cause havoc on here. Although still not perfect, it is much better. As far as conflicting info, you will find that on ANY message base that discusses gliders, they haven't been popular for very long, and much more is being learned. The 4 main books out can give you an idea of that. Some written a long time ago, other more recently. It is tough enough trying to stay up to date with all the changes as it is. There are many great people on this base, with many different ways of doing things. Especially the diets, You have people in just the 4 year span, feeding many different diets. they each have their reason for staying with theirs. NO ONE knows everything, we all learn all the time, The real stories page will show you that many of us have all gone through times that we too didn't feel like we were the greatest parent. But by getting different peoples veiws on things, in the end it will be you to make the final choice, based on what YOU feel is right for your glider. To allow each and every person to voice their own veiws, without slamming, flamming, name calling, swearing, and without attitudes is what everyone would like to see, the problem is, some people feel that their opinion should be the only one. But you have that everywhere in life, that is what makes everyone so unique and special. The fact is we were given a mind and a voice, and for us to not use them, is a waste, especially when we ALL have so much to offer. You know I read something the other day, on another base, they said.. that the same questions that are asked time and time again, only give us all another chance to review what was already said before. I know I, myself has steadily researched gliders for the last 3 years, there is so much yet that is unknown about them, so much yet to learn. I would love to see an authority with them, and have them answer some of the questions that have many of us puzzled, but the sad fact is, they are not readily available, or even easy to find. The conflicting issues, are about as many as the controversial ones. you may not find in a random group of 10 long time glider owners, where even 3 or 4 people feed the exact same thing, they all would have their own issues regarding houseing, playtime, etc.. As a new owner I suggest, to find a proven diet, find out what a long time breeder is feeding, then stick with their entire diet, until you have a chance to explore the different ones. Gliders die so needlessly, over 90% of the time it is due to diets. To have all this compounded with vets that are not glider knowledgable, makes it even worse. Too many times, we see people getting a pair of gliders, then immediatly breeding them, not knowing much about them in the first place. I get calls often, and emails too. from people just like nicole, who get a glider, and the person that sold it to them, knows very very little about the proper care required. It causes a person that may very well be a great parent, a lot of confusion. After all they only want to do what is right for their new pet. But is often led to believe that one thing is healthy, whereas in reality it may be fatal. There are a lot of people that feel very strongly about certain topics, it could be due to personal experience, what they have seen with other gliders, or what you see time after time happen to a glider who is absolutly defenseless. I myself wish, my glider could talk and tell me what is absolutly right for her. It sure would save me a lot of time researching, trying to find those answers. Conflicting info, controversial topics, all bring about discussions. Discussions, bring about new ideas, old ideas, and personal decisions. Some of us, and we know who we are, I being no exception to the rule, has tried very hard to keep the roar at a low rumble. I have seriously slow my postings as well. But not because I am afraid someone may challange what I have to say, I welcome that. But to open the doors for others to also say what they are thinking. There are quite a few of us, that sit back and lurk. When someone thinks they have ALL the answers, they need to research some more, there is so much being found out on a regular basis. We all wish, if nothing else, that you stay and learn as much as you can, I read 8 different glider bases on a daily basis. I lurk on most, but I see the same thing here that is everywhere else. I see a lot of people, with different ways of doing the same thing, .. loving their gliders,
To ask a question regarding a gliders diet will get you as many answers as it would if you asked a parent what they feed their kids. The difference is though, with humans, we know what the RECOMMENDED dail allowances are, if not we can easily find out. With Gliders, it isn't so simple.. I wished it were.
