: They will live longer in captivity because we provide safer habitats, and better nutrition. They generally do not have to concern themselves with preditors, or go through feast or famine seasons. Even when we provide them with the best that we can offer some times it is not enough and some will have short lifespans due to illness or genetic defect. Like with any animal, death is not a respector of age. Babies die, human babies that is. Sometimes young cats and dogs die. Generally speaking they can live up to 15 years in captivity. This sadly does not mean that they will live to that ripe old age. In my opinion they just do not live long enough.
