I know that 12 worms is too many and I just read on another page that there are TWO kinds of mealworms. A normal size and a super worm. You do have to cut the heads off of the super worms becuase the jaws continue to chew even during digestion. GROSS! BUT the little mealies are OK and harmless. It just gives me the creeps.
