: I've been doing a lot of research on this lately, because
: I plan on getting either a sugar glider or a flying squirrel.
: I originally wanted a sugar glider, because they're more
: common, so I knew people who had them. Now I'm leaning more
: toward a flying squirrel, because from what I've read, they're
: cleaner, smell better, they go to the bathroom generally in one
: corner of their cage (like being naturally housebroken), and
: they're easier to take care of and feed. People think that
: sugar gliders are friendlier and bond better, but I think
: it's a myth based on two things - not as many people have
: flying squirrels, so people assume gliders are better pets,
: and it's far more critical, in terms of bonding and friendliness
: to get the flying squirrel as a baby than the glider. Also,
: they do cost marginally less, and it isn't quite so critical
: for them to have a companion, especially if they bond with
: you correctly.

: I also am looking for someone who sells flying squirrels -
: thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

: Good luck to you guys making a choice!

: Rach I found a list of breeders at www.brisky.com/breeders/flyingsquirrel.aspl I have A flying squirrel that I saved from a cat when it was about 3 weeks old and I have never had a more wonderful pet. I had no idea that they were so playful or that they bond so well. My husband and I would not take any amount of money for him. We let him out of his cage every night and at first I was a nervous reck but soon found out that his favorite thing to do is to play with us like we are his own personal trees. We have a open loft and large cedar beams in our livingroom and he loves to glide down from the highest spot upstairs down to one of us and if we get busy and are not giving him the attention that he wants he will come and find us and demand that we play catch him if we can!! I have found him to be a very clean pet and really easy to care for. we don't want him to feel like he is traped so we just got him a 4 level cage that is 20x36x72 now we decided to get a mate for him. If you have any questions just e-mail me, and I will answer any questions that I can but remember this is my first experience with these little guys, Melinda
