Sugar glider info is constantly changing. They have not been in captivity for very long, therefore some books printed the wrong information. Since then new reaserch has been done. The most recent book I even know of was reaserched and published in 1997...almost 4 years ago. Do you have a book more recent than that? If you were to contact the arthor of that book youwould find that they too agree the info is outdated. There has since then been a major study done on the effects of catfood on sugar gliders. The results are not good. Catffod has been known to cause bloackage in sugar gliders, which kills. It can also cause constipation, which can if not treated quickly also kill a glider. Just because you have not had any problems thus far..that does not mena that your gliders do not have interneal damage from this diet. Change it immedietly! No catfood at all. I would use leadbeaters at night along with a blended mixture of half fruit half veggies. Also feed 2-3 mealworms a day for added protien. When the mother is expecting make sure you give her even more protien. If she doesn't have enough protien she will continue to eat the babies.

As for the sock, some gliders have gotten broken legs from socks. Go to the pet store and buy soemthing called a Ferret Couch. Its a great pouch..its safer..and easier for you to have access than a sock.
