They are not the same thing. Gliders are marsupials (carry young in a pouch, like kangaroos and oppossums). Flying squirrels are mammals. That's the big difference. I think flying squirrels have a flat tail for steering, while gliders have a round bushy one. Otherwise I think their "flight" is similar. Also, I believe flying squirrels are larger than gliders, though I'm not positive. Full-grown gliders are only 4"-5" long, plus the tail. Anyone else know of other differences? Are flying squirrels nocturnal like gliders?

: CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SUGAR GLIDER AND A FLYING SQUIRREL. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA AND HAVE 4 "FLYING SQUIRRELS". THEY LOOK LIKE A GLIDER BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD THEM CALLED THAT.
