I'm sorry about your lost birds.
In the wild, sugar gliders not only eat sap and insects, they also eat small rodents, small lizards and yes, small birds... I have also read that they eat finches when sharing the same environment. So yours aren't monsters. They just follow their instinct. A 20'x 15' screenhouse sounds like a wonderful environment for sugar gliders. It's too bad you can't mix species. (Mixing species is quite dangerous for very many combinations of animals.
Again, I'm sorry about your loss and I hope you will be able to provide a suitable environment for the gliders. They really are wonderful creatures, though it may take you a little while to be able to feel this way about them after what they have done.
