you don't have to get him neutered just because of this..all you have to do is take a q-tip with a little bit of mineral oil and gently wipe his bald spot daily to help remove the musk build up. If you don't do this he may start pulling at it trying to get if off and end up pulling out fur.
If you do get him neutered...his scent gland will go away. The appearance of the bald spot is created by the musk/oil that he excretes and he will no longer excrete it once he is neutered.
The cost of neutering varies depending on the vet...anywhere from
$40-150.
