Subject: Pouch info.

I have a female glider, Kayce, who is almost a year old. She lives with my neutered male. Anyway, the past couple months I noticed the opening to her pouch was swollen. She showed no other signs of being sick. I kept a close watch & with in several days, the swelling would disappear. This happened about 3 times, so I spoke with my vet and decided to let him look at her (he had been talking with other vets and doing research). Well, on Saturday when I took her in, her pouch was fine. He looked at her & swabbed the area. He then told me she has a mild yeast infection. He states that yeast in the pouch is normal b/c it is warm & moist but her count was higher then normal. He stated that when she goes into season (she is not spayed) that with some animals, the body is "fooled into thinking it is pregnant". He stated this may be why she is swelling up. Anyway, he gave me a liquid that I have to put on and around her pouch for 10 days. He stated that if I see it swell again, to start the medicine again for 10 more days and to keep repeating everytime (if) it swells. He told me not to worry. He stated that if this was to go untreated, there is an 80% chance that nothing bad would happen. But, of coarse, there is ALWAYS a chance something could happen so prevention is the key!! Just wanted to pass this info on to all of you.
