If your glider is scratching only slightly, it probably nothing to worry about. You'll be putting her/him through alot of undo stress having a culture done. Mites are usually evident by hair loss, scaly skin, redness and maybe even sores in advanced cases. There is a big difference in a bald patch around a scent gland and mite infestation. A vet experienced with gliders should know this and if they do a culture on it, I'm afraid they will be just taking your money.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use one of those bird protector things. They are not even good for birds. They have something similar to mothballs in them and are not good for anything.
