Well, it seems to me something isn't right. Everything I read tells me that gliders have a very faint smell. My two gliders together have less of a smell than Jules, my pet mouse, who really isn't smelly. If I put my nose right at the opening of their sleeping pouch after they have used it for about a week, it smell something but it is not a loud smell, and it is not even a bad one.
So, according to what I have read:
- Males tend to smell more than females but even the male's scent is not supposed to be offensive.
- Urinating in the bag may be normal but gliders who defecate in there as well may be sick. A visit to a knowledgeable vet is recommended.
- A diet that includes too much vitamin supplement can cause gliders' smell to be more pronounced (though don't start cutting vitamin intake right away without knowing that this is actually the case.
- It could very well be diet related. What do you feed your glider?
Bottom line: it is not normal.
I hope this helps,
Good luck!
