The books are very outdated. The most recent one is from 1997 and it also has outdated info. People here have had experience with this. They have seen gliders fight to the death or starve others. Why would anyone tell someone not to do it if they didn't believe there was a very high risk of death. Colony situations generally only work if the gliders are related or have been togetehr before reaching sexual maturity. There is always an exceptuon to the rule..but it is not worth the risk.
