I agree, Jane did a good thing by bring this topic back up again. I also agree the impulse buys have a lot to do with it, but if we cut back on the breeding and keep gliders out f pet stores. I believe their would be a lot less "I need to find a home for my glider cause I don't think I have enough time for it, or I'm moving, or I'm going to school" type of situations. If anyone is going to jump on anyone here. Just on me. I WAS one of those impluse buyers. I saw a show on t.v about pocket pets, acouple years later I saw an add in the paper for one, and I went an bought it. No research, no getting on the internet. All I knew was they were cute, and I wanted one. The breeder told me what to feed and vitimines to give....
I sure has He!! didn't know what i had gotten myuself into. But I was in high school and I didn't care. I had a lone glider till little bit was 1 1/2 yr olds. He was lonly and I wasn't spending enough time with him. Graduate and had boyfriend. So I got wickit his friend and mate. Now I have 2. Within just this year. they've had 2 sets of joey's and their could be 1 more on the way. Hopefully I got little bit nuetered in time. I'm not a breeder, and never wanted to be. It's hard enough finding dogs and cats good homes. Thankfully my vet wanted a pair, so I trades him my first 2 joey's and a cage fully loaded, for a surgary on my dog, and also told him that if it didn't work out, to give me a call and I'd take them back and pay for the surgary. I've got 2 joey's now. One is already spoken for, and I'm giving her the same statment. If it doesn' work out. I'll take them back and give you yor money back. At lot of people that own gliders and sale the joey WONT do that. I think their should be a VERY strict policey on breeding. Only acouple breeders aloud in each state, and I believe the price for a glider should double and in some cases tripled, so people REALLY will think about their getting into. In one year is you have 2 gliders.. they mate, and then by the end of the year you could have up to a total of 8 glider, if your one of those people that say well if they have joey's..I'll just keep them all.
