Karen, I have to agree with Shell, as much as I love Baybe, I would never allow her death to be in vain, especially if it could help another glider someday..there is so much , so many vets don't know about gliders.. that anything and everything would and could help. My vet has done 3 autopsys, all for different reasons.. If not for the last one, she still may not know what healthy organs should look like.. the information gained is far more valuable than I could have ever imagined.. As shell had said you must separate the body from the glider itself.. By doing that another owner has opened the doors for not only other vets, but also other owners as well. The vets who do or send out for the autopsys..generally see a variety of things from bad diets.. I talked with a vet path who had never seen a healthy liver or cecum before.. we have opened the door for that vet path..as well as opened the research for those organs.. we also had organs to show at the getaway so owners could see...I think everyone that was there was as taken back as I was....I too hope you find it in your heart when the time comes to do the right thing.. Time is always of the utmost.. BTW if donation is an option please refrigerate not freeze..
