Katerina,
I can't believe ferrets & gliders are illegal in CA. I know they are, but I lived in Huntington Beach for a while and after seeing some of the people they let live there, I wonder why the animals cause them fear! :-)

I suppose you could find a breeder willing to ship to CA, but be prepared to lose your pet if it's found out. I don't know about the legal ramifications, but I wonder if it's worth the risk of fines, etc, not to mention what they might do to the glider. After reading some of the ferret horror stories, I would find out as much as possible, even from animal control and "meanies" like them.

You might check with some of the ferret orgs in CA and ask them about vets. Someone might know a vet who will see gliders, too. (I know in Dallas ferrets are prohibited, but my vet is in Dallas and it's not a problem. I live outside of Dallas where they're allowed.)

From what I understand, they don't need vets very often, but you need to be prepared for when they do. You don't need them until you need them, but when you need them, you REALLY need them.

You don't need a license to own a sugar glider, but if you're going to breed them to sell or even to give away you do. I don't know how they would find out if you gave one away to a good friend, but I'd be very careful.

I guess you just need to do lots of research and make sure you're ready for all the problems you might be in for! I'm trying to make the same decisions and I know it's not easy - and I'm in Texas where gliders are legal!

Good luck!
Danya
