"W"...Just had to say Thank you! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out a way to put a safe wheel in my gliders cage, and your idea is great! (I, too, had many of the problems you mentioned with the wodent wheel!) I bet if the wire of the wheel was covered with something it would be even safer for them. Any ideas on that?

I gave up on my wodent wheel-my gliders chewed big
: holes in it, it was incredibly loud, they couldn't run
: in it very well, and I won't even mention the smell. Instead I made
: my own safety wheel that is whisper quiet.
: I bought a metal ferret wheel and took it off its stand so I just
: had the wheel. Then I bought a long metal rod that is longer
: than the cage that the wheel slides onto. I fit it onto the cage
: with rubber (test tube) stoppers that I drilled holes in the middle
: of. The stoppers fit into the wire mesh cage sides and hold it securely.
: The wheel is held in place on the bar by 2 more stoppers.

: My gliders love their new wheel and it is really safe for them. They can't
: get caught anywhere on it and it lets me sleep.
