Yes, it sounds gross... but you get used to it after a while.

Only one store with mealies? Have you thought about the idea of buying them in bulk? It seems there are quite a few people local to you... and the pet stores charge a horrendous markup on them... I order them by the thousand for @ $10. Maybe you can split the 1000?
(Fortunately, I have lizards to help gobble them down.) Just a thought...
