: Hello,I am a soon to be owner and breeder. I have done a great deal of research on sugar gliders and have bought every book on them. But, before I purchase my first pair I want to get some other breeders' insight on them. I want to have everything ready for when I bring them home. So here are my questions. Please feel free to post replies, or email me . My another email is ROCKHOLD@CLINTON-FAMNET.COM .I will reply to all who answers my message. My appreciation go out to all who get some insight on my questions.
First of all I would take my time in the breeding part. You may end up with more responsibility than you counted on. READ,READ,READ! You are doing the right thing by reseaching. Check out as many websites as possible they can sometimes give better advice than the books.
:
1) When you are purchasing what did you look for?? Look for an overall healthy apperance. Are they active? Check for external parasites, sores, lesions, etc. Ask for a certificate of health from a vet.It may cost a little more but it helps. Very Important!!! It is basically a guarantee that they are healthy.

: 2) Do you use a vinyl coated cage, if so why?? Tha advantage is they are easier to clean. Mine isn't

: 3) What size do I need to provide room for more then one pair ?? The bigger the better. I would do some comparison shopping first. I wasted a bunch of money on a lousy, small cage; Iwas naive in that area I guess. I ended up buying a cage three times the size at 1/3 the cost of the first cage. It should be around 4ft. tall and a foot and a half wide.

: 4) What do you use for a nesting box?? I used a wooden bird house that you can get at the pet store but it was hard to clean and got smelly. A pouch is good, small purse ( I use a small macramay purse), Or a plastic box. Read this site you can get lots of ideas

: 5) What kind of bedding do you use?? For the bottom of the cage use aspen. This is less harsh on their lungs. Don't use pine. In the nesting box use a torn up t-shirt that you wore a couple of days get your smell on it this will also help with the bonding

: 6) What is the best diet for them?? 75% fruits and veg. 25% dry food. They will also need a vitamin suppliment. Again check out the websites to get a variety of ideas.

: Good Luck,
Rachel2.
