: : : What is the most meal worms you should give a glider in a day, or a week? I know they are high in fat and I don't want to give him to many.

: : That would depend on who you talk too. I have read every thing from 10 a day(being the main protien source) to none because of the shells on the worms are supposed to be hard to digest. Meal worms are high in fat and also have a not so hot calcium to phosphorus ratio. I figure like most treats, one once in a while couldn't hurt.

: We used to feed our gliders mealworms rather sparingly (based on information we had read), but our vet said that there was nothing wrong with our gliders having mealworms every day. Sugar gliders are, after all, insectivores in the wild.

: We've been feeding our gliders 5 or 6 small mealworms every day for nearly two years, and they are happy and healthy. They gave us three babies in two litters before we had the male neutered, and all three babies were healthy at the time we gave them away (two months oop).

: We order mealworms 1000 at a time from Grubco and keep them in the refrigerator. Very few of them die before we run out and have to reorder. It's a lot cheaper and more convenient than buying tubs of 50 at the pet store.

I alternate with crickets every other day. The protein is
about the same but crickets have hardly any fat and are
high in calcium too. I buy mine live and put the entire
carton they are delivered in in the chest freezer. Then I
put em in freezer bags. I'd perfer to feed em live but
don't want crickets jumping around the house...they eat clothes.
