I personally , don't agree with a bird cage for gliders It is very very hard for their tiny feet to clamp onto the bars without sliding , many times causeing sores on their feet. I use 1/2 X 1/2 inch vinyl coated duramesh which can be found at Lowes for 29.00 for a 25' X 3' roll. Others use the heavier, commercial grade of 1/2 X 1" PVC cvoated wire, It is more expensive, but depending on the contruction of the cage more sturdy and durable. The commercial grade is much thicker, however the wire i use is also a little softer on their feet and they have more squares thus preventing the sliding. The hair loss in this case I would have to say is the stress of the smaller cage...The minimum size should not be smaller than 18"x18"x3'..Also with birrd cages I have noticed that the top edges are not braced, therefore; it is weaker there, I have heard of gliders getting their necks caught in them, If someone hasn't seen the strength of a determined glider, than wait till they do. The bird cage wires could not hold a determined glider. There is far too much space between crossbars.
