I just wanted to say that i called my vet after the first day he was constipated and he told me not to bring him in, to change his diet for a week and if it didn't clear up to bring him in. i am not using this site as free medical advice..im just asking for suggestions.. i love my gliders and will do anything for them..i am prepared to take care of them properly..im sorry that i used this site to ask for advice. if this isn't a site to ask questions about gliders then i have come to the wrong page...to those who gave me advice without grief i thank you..

Sunny,
I reread your previous post and responses. I did not find that either one of the people who responded gave you "grief". I thought their advice was good and helpful. Is it possible I was not able to find the post you are referring to?

i was writing to the response about how this was not a free medical service site and that i should know how to take care of them properly..it seemed as if the post was directed towards me.. i was alittle offened because i do take very good care of my gliders and would do anything for them. i was just asking anyone for suggestions..if i misinterputed the post then i am sorry..but again..i felt it was directed at me.

I agree with Jane. That particular post I believe was put to the board because someone (not you)had posted their glider had been constipated for A WEEK. Can you imagine how that glider must have felt.
I don't believe you fell into that category. Please don't leave due to a misunderstanding.

Sunny,
I'm sorry! I didn't mean for you to take offense to my post. For the past week I have seen MANY constipation posts and I was going to post this earlier and I forgot and then I saw your post and I remembered. On another board someone had stated that their glider had been constipated for 13 days! The reply about medical advice wasn't directed towards you. A lot of people are always saying " my glider can't walk what should I do" and other questions that are obviously best answered by a qualified vet and not strangers on a message board. People take for granted that we know things about gliders and they assume that we are also quite knowledgeable in the vet field. I was just trying to make a point that if your(not you, but anyone) glider is sick we can't answer your question because we are not there, we can't see what is going on. That is what a vet is for. I again apologize for the misunderstanding.

I hope you and anyone else did not take my post personal. I was not trying to upset or hurt anyone. I have not yet even seen your post so that is not the issue in my mind.

As a poster for MANY boards I have seen things you could not even imagine. For example: My glider is dragging around the bottom, not eating and has just turned blue. Can you help me?

In most cases I would love to say...no dinghy! Get your glider to a vet. Instead I have to post a pleading post of...get your glider to the vet PLEASE. I should not have to do this, nor should others. I should not have to say to myself...Gosh, I hope they get the hint. The glider is only dyeing in their hands.

There have also been times when I, as well as others, were to late.

Then I see a post...I feel so bad the glider died what did I do wrong? I again would love to say...well, you didn't use your head, you didn't go to the vet, and any vet would have been better then none. Oh, and just a foot note any vet will take you animal if you know how to tell them to do so. That is their job, the worst thing is they fail but at least something was done. Anyway, I also see...I am so sad posts. Well, so am I am for gosh sakes you should feel bad!

You see you can't say these things, well you can but then the world calls you a jurk for being honest. Do in most cases you will see me not post while everyone is saying how sorry they are for the loss. Well, again they should be sorry to the animal and tell the owner what they did wrong.

Many times I have posted this and tried to get people to see the VET is there because he is a animal Dr. not because he feels like walking around in a while coat and loves seeing DMV or whatever next to his/her name.

I hope this makes since. I really wished that I could be speaking of just a constipated glider. However I am not and can't do to all the other animals and situations I have seen. AGAIN, I have not seen or know your situation so I was not direction a thing to YOU. Thank you and I hope you see this note.

I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding..i just get very defensive when i think someone is assuming that i can't or don't take the best possible care for my gliders..I now understand that this post was not directed towards me and thank you for taking the time to clear things up for me..i think this a great site, and the people on here is what makes it so great..you guys really care about gliders and give the the best possible advice from your experience and knowledge..once again..i am sorry for the inconvience..

John...not all vets will see gliders. When Sandy was having sezuires I called every vet in the phone books. Not one would see her. I havd a vet an hr a way willing to talk on the phone to any vet and tell them what to do. No one cared. Half said we don't even know what a sugar glider is, and the other half said we don't do sugar gliders. I said my vet will tell you exactly what to do...she just can't make it an hr a way. None of them cared. There was an animal emergency hospital a blick from where I was...and they refused to see her. I finally found a vet who would see her..but by the tume we found a vet who would it was nearly too late. She died in the car on the way to that vet. My point is not all vets will se a glider even in the worst conditions. I told all these vets that the glider was dying and needed immediate care..but they all told me to go elsewhere.

I think there would be a LOT of people upset if they didn't take my glider. That to me is not a vet and should not, in my opinion, be in practice.

I really hope this never happens again to anyone. If it does I would make a BIG deal out of it in hopes it would teach them a lesson. Again, I am so sorry this had to happen to something so innocent and someone so loving.

Many vets specialize in one or two species, dogs, cats, birds, herps, etc. It is unreasonable to expect them to learn a new species just because you call with an emergency. That is why you should find a willing vet prior to needing one.

My message above seems a little harsh, I didn't mean it that way and it isn't directed at anyone in particular. It's been a rough week of trying to coordinate human specialists for my grandpa and frustrating that I can't make one doctor know everything needed smile It works the same for vets, they choose which area they want to specialize in and may be unwilling/unable to treat other species.

I don't know about everyone else but I had two vets..but my emergency took place while I was at work. Because of bad traffic and the condition of the glider I knew it would take me more than an hour to get to my vet. I didn't have a vet close to home and work. My point was that not all vets will see gliders even if it is life and death. Having a good vet is great...but emergencys don't always happen when you are close to your vet.
