Ok this question is for all the glider owners that have a netuered male:

I have 2 netuered males. My vet neutered Naco 2 years ago and left the pom-pom on him. Then just a couple of weeks ago she neutered Bandit. So I really can't compare the two very well, but with Bandit it looks like there is bump where his pom-pom should be and I don't know if this was there before and I just never noticed. I called the vet and she's out today but the secertary said I could probably bring Bandit in on Saturday. But between then and now I just wanted to see what you guys think of it......PS Also when he did have a problem for a little while where his genitalia wouldn't retract, and the vet gave him some ominment which seemed to help. I havnt noticed that it's been out since.

Thanks in advance,
Rebekka

There are two different ways a vet neuters a glider. The first way is to take the "pompom" and make an incision, the testicles are removed through the incision, leaving the sack(empty pompom). This is how dogs and cats are neutered. This is what was done to your first glider. The second way is to take the sac and cut the entire sac off of the string that holds it onto the body. Then a suture(stitches) is made on the string part that is left, closing it. Then glue is put on top of that to make it harder for the glider to open it. This will leave a little nub where the pompom used to be. It is normal for a nub to be there. HOWEVER, if the nub appears to be more swollen than it was a day or so earlier or it red and looks irritated, then your glider licked it too much and could have started a little infection. If it looks this way I would take him in just to have him glanced at to make sure it is normal.

Thanks for the advice. My vet isn't too concerned she thinks it's scar tissure build up (she said this is typical) and since it just got done recently she wants me to just keep an eye on it for the next month or so and see if there is any changes.
