I have had my three babies for six months now and they are great and healthy. Two days ago though, my little boy glider, Jake, got his toes tangled up in his climbing rope and it cut off the circulation. I took him to the vet immediately and he gave me antibiotics and said his toes would fall off but he would be fine.
That was two days ago. He is eating fine and he is trying to play with his girlfriends but they are regecting and even violently attacking him. I had to seperate them temporarily. He is also very weak in his back legs. His back legs aren't the ones that got hurt. He basically pulls him self around using his front legs. He moves very sluggishly and sleeps all day. He seems healthy and willing to try and get around. It's just pitiful to see him like this. And I don't know why his gals are attacking him. Please help me or let me know it will be OK.

Did you get an X-ray? Are you sure he didn't break a bone in his leg. My glider Nero got his toe stuck in something and ended up with a fracture. He's currently on Calcium drops to help his bone calcify and we have no idea if this'll work. A glider has yet to have a bone heal. Anyway if you didn't get an X-ray done, get back to the vets and get that done as soon as possible and make sure he didn't do anything else like pull a muscle. Take it from one who knows. Sorry for Jakes misfortune. Hope all turns out well and please keep us posted on what's up.

This also sounds to me like it could be HLP. By all means take him back to the vet ... if it is indeed HLP you will need to increase his calcium intake.
This is a condition that can take a glider down very quickly. Try to catch it now while it is reversible ... it does not need to be terminal if treated in time.

I agree with KarenE, it sounds like HLP and it sounds like your glider needs mega doses of Calcium right now........Just a note, once I have removed joeys from their parents a couple of days or so, the parents especially the dads don't seem to recognize them and will attack their own offspring if returned to the cage....Maybe??? this is what has happened with your l'il fella...At any rate, get him CALCIUM NOW!!!

Dan-

Please get him to the vet TODAY. When gliders start to look ill they go downhill VERY FAST. He could have fractured something or have a calcium deficiency. Both are very fatal if untreated. Nero is also in a lot of pain, even though he doesn't show it. Almost all animals (even dogs and cates) do not show that they are sick or in pain until it's too late. It's a natural defense to hide illness/injury so competition/predators don't come after them. Please RUSH him to the vet.
