i took alex to the movies with me last week to keep a eye on him, thought he wasn't feeling well and wanted to finger feed him to keep his strenth up. after the show got started i heard a girl two rows ahead of me go "Oh! it's a sugarglider!!" i felt my pouch,.... empty!!! i rushed down to her and grabbed alex off her shoulders where she had her cupped hand over him. she knew what gliders were cos she was a college student and had one at home in kansas!!! what are the chances of that in a dark semi crowded theater that a glider would jump on someone who wouldn't yell "AHHHH, A RAT! and start a stampede!!! this is why i seldom take my babies anywhere. first i think they would rather sleep than jostle and second i fear discovery and loss.. plus i work in a operating room and go to the gym when i'm out so my lifestyle is hard to carry them around. next time though that pouch will be zipped, buttoned and saftey pinned!!!!!! oh and in a lead lined boxed with a lock and combination lock. everyone at worked razzed me about this, which is fine if they don't tell my husband. after all the theater says no outside food and drinks, doesn't say a thing about "hearing-ear gliders".

That's too funny! LOL
Glad you got him back so easily, it's also one of my fears, to lose Bonzai somewhere and not be able to find him, but he still goes quite a few places with me, on his sleepy time. When he's wide awake, we are HOME...lol. Happy Holidays! I'm glad that it worked out so well for ya! wink

I went to see Cast Away on Friday and Syd came with me. She would rather be in my bra than anywhere else so I don't really worry. She comes with me wherever I go; shopping, school, the movies, wherever. =)

THis may just be my opinion BUT I really discourage taking gliders to movie theaters. #1 It is dark and gliders almost always want to explore if it's dark #2 Movie theaters have the sound SO loud I am sure it is damaging to their ears. They are so small and the sound is a lot louder to them than to us...Just imagine that.

you know what, i agree with you about the noice, but i had happened to see this movie once already and knew it wasn't a loud movie, "Meet the parents". I hadn't brought them to movies before cos i knew the noice in most movies is loud from explosions, car wrecks, chases ect... I brougt alex one other time to a movie, a james bond movie, and said i wouldn't do it again!!!!!! and i'm saying it again for different reasons. LOL

My glider goes everywhere with me and we have never had a problem..not even at the movies. However it takes gluders a little while to get used to being carried around so if your glider isnt used to it its liekly they will wake up...and since you were in a dark theater he prolly thought it was playtime. Im very glad you got him back he could have easily been stepped on.

Hi I don't have a sugar glider yet. But am getting one next month. I was wondering how good they are when you do take them places. I go to cosmotology school and would it be ok if I took it thier. and what kind of pouch do you get to keep them in. Can anyone help me?

Thank you raspberry

Some gliders do very well and some don't. You shoild never take them out of the house until you have worn them for 7 straight days and they haven't come out. They must be trained that this is sleep time, otherwise they will come out and explore where ever you are. However considering how sensitive a gliders sense of smell is and you go to a cosmotology school where chemical smell is very strong I am not sure a glider would be okay there. The smells may stress the glider out and keep them from sleeping.

When you take them anywhere they must be in a pouch, bra, or pocket..sleeping. Do not take them anywehere when they are awake. The lights will not hurt them if they stay in the pouch. Some gliders are bothered by lights and some are not...so that depends on the glider.
