My favorite Christmas present this year was noticing a little lump in Weezer's pouch! We have already read everything we could find on joey development, hand rearing (just in case we have any problems), and what to expect with the new joey, but I haven't seen much at all on the mother's behaviors while pregnant. I would welcome any info you can share on how your pregnant females behaved during their pregnancies, and anything I should watch for. Thanks! smile

For the most part, gliders are great parents: You get to sit back, relax, and enjoy the joeys. Of all my pairs I only had one mom who didn't properly care for her babies and I wonder if it was something like failure to thrive or something similar to SIDS. The only thing I do is to make sure they get extra protein and calcium. When they get boiled egg, I just slice thru the shell. The females will eat the shell in small amounts.

Hello and congratulations! I have no experience except that my pregnant female is farther along than yours. I have noticed that when I get her out she is not very playful or curious. She is getting pretty darn big, as she has twins, and has taken a couple of falls that scared me to death! If your glider does that, don't fret too much, I think they are kind of used to that... Anyway, she didn't lose her joeys, but is now more careful, thank goodness! I can't wait to see little baby tails sticking out. I dreamed about them for the very first time last night. Yeah, I'd say I'm a wee excited. Have fun and happy gliding!

Thanks, but what I'm really looking for here is info on how the pregnant female behaves during pregnancy, not after the babies are OOP -- I've found a lot of info on that subject.

For example, is it typical for them to have times when they want to sleep a lot? Crabbiness? Are there any infections or any other problems that could occur during pregnancy that I should watch for to keep my female healthy?

Thanks Debbie -- wow, twins the first time...I'd be a basket case! wink Funny, I had a dream about the new baby last night too!

Yes, Dawn, they can be a little more crabby and require a little more sleep. You don't need to worry...Did you decide if the "big lump" is twins??

Not sure, but you may be right. I was thinking it was pretty large for as far along as I thought she was -- she's protective of her belly right now, so it's hard to get a good look, but it's possible!
