i have a male sugarglider who is just developing his bald spot. i know that sugar gliders go through a nippy stage during this time in their lives. i think that it isnt a deficiency thing because i feed him leadbeaters with fruits and veggies. he chews on everything outside his cage, not inside it. his favorites are hair, strings on clothing, bumps on clothing, fingers, bracelets, and shiny things, etc. he seems to try new things with his mouth, like a toddler. will he grow out of it? i wont let him chew on my hair cause i dyed it. why does he chew on everything? hes not a mean glider, hes tame, and i dont think hes doing it because hes scared of the thing, he calmly approachs the thing and puts it in his mouth.

juno did this for a while too, but i think it was dietary. she still does it now and then but i'm pretty certain its out of curiosity or playing than dietary...long hair and strings are definately favorites, shell go after them like a kitten, same with bracelets, beads on strings, glowing things, shiny stuff, bumps on clothing (i had a bunch of raver friends over recently, and she loved them and their toys, very uncharacteristic of her cuz shes not usually social, but definately cool)...if youre certain diet isnt the cause, id bet its just curiosity or smell, make sure he doesnt chew anything dangerous...
...put a finger under your shirt and watch your glider pounce on it <gryn>...it really sounds like its just play and curious behavior.

You can handle the joeys as soon as mom will let you...I always try to handle mine from the first day OOP. That way it only takes a day or two for them to get used to your scent. Congratulations! I love new baby joeys!
