I am trying to put a bit of weight on my female glider (she only weighs 3 ounces), and thought carbohydrates would do the trick. She loves organic pasta (no additives or perservatives), so would it be ok to add some into her food each night? How much would be too much?

Ric

Hmmmm....good question....I had a very sick under weight glider and put weight on her by giving her extra food and lots of mealworms each night. Did you rescue her? I rescued mine and she had to go on antibiotics because she was sick and then after 2-3 months of a proper diet she has gained around 25 grams. She is still on the petite side but I don't fear breaking her in half everytime I hold her.

i give my gliders pasta on occasion so i think it would probably be fine to give her some..as far as amounts go i cant help you there..my gliders are average weight..so i only give them a few pieces once a month or so...
you could also give her nuts..they are pretty high in fat and have a lot of nutrition in them..good luck

I also give mine pasta on occassion. How about baked potatoes...they are pretty high in carbs and mine love them. They like sweet potatoes too...raw or baked. Be careful with the nuts, I have heard that too many peanuts can be toxic. I was also wondering if she is sharing a cage with another glider. I have mine two to a cage and sometimes the boys try to hog the food. You really have to watch them to make sure both are getting to eat. Best of luck!!!

Just a comment on nuts...they do have alot of fat in them and they can cause fatty deposits in the eyes, which can lead to eye problems (such as blindness). The bottom line with nuts is to observe your glider's health and appearance when you feed them. My 2 boys and 2 girls love english walnuts. I usually give them 2 nuts(not a complete nut) a piece every other night(chopped walnuts). My one male, Spooky, really put on some weight, so I took them out of his diet and he is losing weight. I know his metabolism is definitely slower than the others now, so I have to keep that in mind when I feed him. Just observe your gliders when you feed them, while heeding the advice of others as well! wink
