How many of you feed pinkies on a regular basis? and how often do you feed them to your gliders?
Where is a reliable place to get them frozen and bacteria free?

I dont like feeding pinky mice because it isn't really needed. Crickets and mealworms are the best sources of protein, and the modified leadbeaters is high in protein. Besides that there are also foods like mazuri-omnivore, insectavore-fare, and monkey biscuits. So if you feed insects, leadbeaters, one of those dry foods, and of course fruits and vegetables, then that is all that is needed.

Funny, Maria will be able to help more with this.. she has recently done some research as to nutrionaly when the best age to give them is. sevral long time owners still feed them, but my experience was enough for me, not because it wasn't nutrional but because I couldn't handle it. I personally take my hat off to anyone that would.
I am sure she will respoond, she LOVES talking about this subject..

LOL, thanks B. Sorry I'm late, grandpa had a heart attack and I've been kind of busy playing nurse. He's much better so I'm back smile

It actually turns out that partially grown mice are better than day olds, at least in calcium to phospherous ratios.

Here is the protien/fat/ca/ph ratios for mealworms and mice.

Mealworms are 22% protien, 14.9% fat, .26% Ca, .23% Phos

Pinky mice doesn't list anything but 1.6% Ca, 1,8% Phos

Fuzzy mice lists 1.4% Ca, 1.3% Phos

Adult mice are 19.8% protien, 8.8% fat, .84% Ca, .61% Phos

So, basically, an adult mouse has slightly less protien, lots less fat, more than 3X the calcium and a better calcium to phospherous ratio than mealworms.

Which is not to say that you must feed mice, just that they are actually very nutritious and do compare favorably with insects. I feel that feeding mice adds interest and variety to a healthy diet which also includes insects, fruits, vegetables, etc.

I'm not sure of a good source for mice, since I find it best to breed my own. It is less expensive and I know the the mice have been well cared for and fed a nutritious diet.

The mice also provide all sorts of vitamins as you are feeding the whole animal and not just teh muscle. You get all the vitamins from the liver and spleen. I feed mice infrequently but I know my guys if I would let them would eat a fuzzy each per night. I try if I have the mice to give a fuzzy a week. I think it provides well rounded nutrients but can be replced easily by meat and mealworms. I would NOT feed mice from pet stores, these may well be unsafe.
