Are sugar gliders a "one" person pet?Do they tend to favor one person or one type of people?

Sugar gliders are individuals. They each have their likes and dislikes. They will not necessarily bond to just one person.

I almost always have a glider or two on my person when I go out. Very often they will go from person to person exploring. Very often they will go back to a particular person they seem to like and leave another practically the minute they land. I never worry about my gliders running away: they are very bonded, and to them I am security, their surrogate pouch. When they're thru exploring, they always come back to me!

I might add that I handraised a joey who was not fond of anyone - me included. She "took" immediately to the gal who was to become her owner; it was "love ate first sight."

I have also had gliders who did not get along with numerous other gliders until they met "the one" - and then everything was fine.

Gliders need to be treated like individuals - each with its own likes/dislikes, needs, etc.
Bearing this in mind and being attentive to your glider, you should not have any problems.

FYI: When it comes to choosing a glider (or any other pet) I always recommend that you get the one you like best/that likes you best regardless of the sex of the animal. (Hope that helps you.)

PS: My gliders do not like and bark at smokers. (Who can blame them?)

Sounds like we have very different bonding techniques.. as I have never had a glider that I couldn't teach it not to trust it's owner explicitly.. But then again, I have never found a glider that had a reason to. I have helped tame many a glider, from abused and neglected, to being taught to not trust from birth. I have made strides where many others give up with. Nothing replaces, trust, consistancy, time and love. Not to mention at times quite a few bites..
