I have never had a glider with diarrhea, but I like to be prepared for any problems. So my question is, what can be used (medication) for this problem? I have flavourless pedialyte for dehydration, but what can be used specifically for diarrhea? Can you use hamster wet-tail aid? Thank you ;)

The best thing that you can do for ANY glider is to have a number where you can contact a vet in the middle of the night or at any time the glider gets sick. a glider can totally dehydrate within 12 hours, when they are sick the time is cut much more.
Assess the situation if you are giving them extreme amounts of bowel loosening fruits like applejuice, prunes orage juice. cut them out they will be fine, If they are extremely stressed, remove them from that situation.. diarrhea is a symptom for so many problems, those who wish to self diagnose and treat may end up with a dead glider within the hour. A chance I would not like anyone to take with their glider, even you. The best gift of life you or anyone can have for your glider is a glider knowledgable vet no matter where you are. IF you don't have one FIND ONE..

Lol I will skip the pepto bismol hehe.
I have emergency 24 hour vet numbers (and a very good local exotics vet), but I wanted to know if there was anything I personally could do. I dont give my gliders much if any acidic fruits and no apple or orange juice ever. They wouldn't touch a prune either. I can imagine the vet is the only way to go considering there are so many possible health problem associated with diarrhea. But still is there anything I could do in an emergency situation? (blackout, thunder storm, I know I worry a lot) smile

I have had this happen one time and the vet said there is nothing you can do about it. There is no human rememdy that is safe for gliders. When a glider is having diarrhea the biggest concern is that they will become dehdrated. The glider will not die from the diarrhea, they will die from being dehydrated. The vet said keep forcing luquids into them until you can get here. The vet did give medicine..but it was a very small doseage....and it had to be vet prescribed.

Please, please, please do not try to medicate your glider with other animal products and especially NOT HUMAN PRODUCTS.
I agree with all of the above - you will probably only end up with a dead glider frown

okay if there is an emergency I will just wait until I can find a way to get to a 24 h vet. I wouldnt want to ever harm my gliders so I guess it would be best to wait in this kind of situation. But if it is safe I would still try to give my glider some pedialyte to protect against dehydration if something like this came up.

When a glider is having diarrhea then get any fluids in them you can. Pedialyte, glider aid, fruit juice...anything. With their body weight they can dehdryate vey quickly...so any liquids is better than nothing.

smile Hi Everyone! It definatley pays to pay attention to the stool of your little guys. I know it sonds absolutley disgusting. You can see if the diarrhea has been a slow onset or quick which can help your vet. My boys had gotten it and I did give them Pedialyte and Gatorade. If it is an emergency situation and you can get them to eat; try giving them foods that have a natural constipating effect (i.e. oatmeal, mashed potatoes) above all, keep giving them fluids. When my boys had the diarrhea it was a bacterial upset caused by either stress (We moved and I didn't tell them) or possibly the move caused a bacterial problem due to something a simple as changing water sources. Take care!
