What is your cage made of? Galvanized wire will hold the smell in making the cage always stink. Also wood can absorb odors. Try cleaning your woodent wheel and any woodent toysyou have. Also what doy ou clean the cage with? If it is too strong your glider will mark the cage even more. Ina lot of cases the male is marking the cage...the best thing to do in that situation is to get the male neutered.

You need to clean your cage more often! I clean my cages every two weeks and clean out the tray once a week and wipe off the cage with a wet cloth once a week also. Is your glider a male? Is he neutered? If he isn't neutered then that is the problem. Male gliders can get really stinky if they aren't neutered. Cleanig the toys is a good idea. I don't have a wodent wheel but I hear they can get really stinky. I have a galvanized wire cage and two coated cages. Despite popular opinions My coated cages get stinky quicker. Do you have some sort of litter in the bottom of the tray? My friend pet sat my gliders this summer and didn't put any litter in the tray and when I picked them up the smell made me nauseous. That could be part of the problem too.

are u feeding a vitamin supplament with u're glider's food. repcal, sundrops? too many vitamins can cause an excess odor in the urine. now don't cut out the repcal so u don't have a stinky glider cause u'll have a dead glider. what diet are u using?

Hello,

I have an unnuttered male and boy do I know where you'r coming from. Some of the things I do to help are,
I do not have a wodent weel I have a large size plactic no-bar wheel that hooks on to the side of the cage. They cary them at alot of the big chain pet stores.
It will help alot, and is better for them if you get vinal coated wire for your cage.
Manzinita and eucliptus wood is good for not retaining too much smell.
And what has helped me the most is in stead of newspaper in your tray I use All PET PINE bedding not litter OK.(found at pet smart i think) NO it is not pine shavings and all of the bad pine oils have been removed, so it is safe.It also says safe for sugar gliders right on the bag. I would not use it if I wasn't. wink I absorbes oder sooo well I keep the cage in my room again. and no I don't work for the company I'm just so happy it helpes so much with the smell.

Hope this helped some. If anyone has a ? about the bedding I can send you all of what the bag reads.

Chicken wire is not safe for gliders. They can get hurt on it. The wire and the wood are probably holding in the odor. You need a pvc coated cage.

hehehe, We use galavanized as well, and my male stinks to high heaven .. but, its part of life right? the tips added were also good. I too use pine and clean the tray out once a week. also sometimes you can wipe down the cage, instead of really cleaning it and that will help a little. Thats what i do so my male doesnt start spraying more.
Good luck !

Are you using pine bedding? That is not safe for gliders.

I know that pine bedding is not safe, but is it safe if it is in the tray and there is hardware cloth between the gliders and the tray, (hardware cloth is the coated wiring the cage is made of)

Some have said that if the anumal is directly over the pine that the fumes can cause respiratory problems. They don't have to come in direct conatct.

The two litters I use are Aspen litter or Yesterday's News. Aspen litter does not contain the fumes and harmful oils that pine does, but looks and smells like pine. It's very natural and safe. Yesterday's News is a cat litter, but it is made from recycled newspaper and is safe for all animals. I have found that it does a wonderful job controlling some of the odors, and it is very easy to clean out.

Mary and others the pine bedding isn't recommended because of the fumes, that is the cedar, the pines problem is the mites in the wood, I do however use the pine bedding but my cage is 3" below my cage bottom, the main thing with pine bedding is to make sure they can noot come in contact with it. The reason the pine in the cages isn't recommended for branches is because of the the sap in it, and the odors..

where can you get yesterday's news. sounds like a good product and I don't see it at any of the pet stores around here. I use aspen for my guinea and my gliders, just was curious about the pine and direct contact. Sorry so late responding, If i don't check this every day I get so behind!!!! raspberry

Regular pine shavings YES they are bad the stuff I am using is called ALL PET PINE. it is a pellet and has been kiln dried and all of the harmfull pine oils have been removed. you can get it at petsmart. It says safe for sugar gliders right on the bag. But I still did alot of homework on this before I used it. Read about it for your self www.felinepine.com It is the bedding and not the cat litter. let me know what you think
