Basically all you need to know about feeding them is that they eat fruits like apples and oranges or they eat nuts. They even like to eat bugs like meal worms and wax worms. Those are a treat for them. Gliders are easy to take care of just don't ever let them outside there could be too many dangers and they could escape. You can even get them to like other fruits like pears and stuff. You know all the basic stuff. smile

Kristen,
Listen to Bourbon. I'm afraid you may be heading for disaster if you have not done tons, and I do mean tons, of research.
Whoever told Lora that gliders are easy to take care of has given her some misinformation. They are what I consider to be "high maintenance" pets.
That meaning, their diet can be very frustrating should you happen to get picky eaters like mine. You must maintain the correct balance of meat/fruit/veggies/vitamins to ensure their good health AND the vet bills can be astronomical should they need medical attention.
Soooooooo, make sure you are fairly knowledgeable about gliders before taking on three at once. If for some reason, you do not have a choice in this, then pull up every bit of available information AND
be sure to come back here with any questions you may have. We will do all we can to help. smile

Fruits, nuts, and bugs is not a good diet! You do not know how many glider have had ehalth problems form this diet. Sugar gliders have very complicated dietray needs which must be balanced.

They require a lot of reaserch....and a diet that is balnaced for them!

I never said thats all they eat I know that they need alot more than that, I was just giving some of the basic things that they would most likely eat. I just see what my boss feeds them at the pet shop.

Lora,
We are not trying to put you down in anyway smile I have seen what most pet shops feed gliders and it is not an adequate diet. Basically because they are just not equipped to prepare the fresh diet they need. You really need a kitchen type setting for this.
Perhaps the most wonderful thing you could do for your boss is print out all the research you can find on the proper glider diet so he can see for himself exactly what these little guys really need. If he is willing to read this material, his gliders will be much healthier and definitely happier.
Do you by any chance know if he has a USDA license to sell gliders? Just curious.

I believe that he does because he owns an exotic pet shop and they have been in business for a year and a half.

Lora, I believe the information he does have is from a book (i refuse to use that books name, but many of us "ole timers" know which one it was. and if he looks at the date on that book it is seriously outdated. Not to mention has some serious dietary problems in it. please for the future health of the gliders find a more suitable diet for your petstore. This is an issue that many of us have came across over thhe years and we all try very hard to remedy. Just because someone owns a petshop, doesn't mean the info they have is correct. We do see this a lot.

I'm already helping him out with some things. So that the glider in the store will be happier. I just got to take mine home on Saturday and on Sunday she grumbled at me but she didn't attempt to bite and I took her out and let her get to know the place. She seems to be bonding to me very well and very soon. I mean heck its only been one day and already she let me take her out and pet and play with her.

You said that diet was easy...and its deffinitly not. Nuts should be very rarely fed...while bugs should be fed daily. You said thats all you see him feed. Have you ever asked him what his diet plan is? Did he tell you what to feed your new glider? Diet is very complicated....and lots of gliders die each year from bad diets.

Basically what he feeds the glider is oranges, apples, grapes, lettuce, and either meal worms or wax worms. He didn't really tell me what to feed my glider, I read books and came to this web site.

Well if that is his diet...then his glider is not on a good diet. You should hep him to get on a better duet. Gliders die form bad diets all the time.
