raspberry I got my Glider 2 months ago and he is bonding slowly but, trusts me a great deal, still won't let me hold him outside his cage. My question is yesterday when I got home I noticed he had a hole in his left ear, I have no idea how it happened and am scared that maybe it's some sort of disease, please let me know anything. I also would like to know whether I can leave him out during the night if i shut my bedroom door, so I don't hurt him while i sleep. I live in a high rise apartment it's just a 1 bedroom very small. that's all for now. Angela

Angela,
Quite a while back, before the board changed format, there was a long post about an ear mite condition that caused a glider to lose one ear and part of another. Perhaps, Bourbon will remember and can give you more help. It might even be best if you were to e-mail her directly.
As for leaving your glider out at night, please go to Real Stories and read about my Charlie. I think it will definitely change your mind - I certainly hope it does.

He could have ear mites. He needs to go to the vet asap! Please do not let him stay out while you are asleep. Many gliders have been injured or died because of this. You could easily roll over on him and bever know it.

This is a story further down this lost..it is about Charlie..it was written by KarenE..you need to read it.

Thank you for responding quickly I have called my vet and am going tomorrow afternoon, although, she doesn't think that is what it is since he hasn't been scratching it at all. I hope that it's not!!!!! As for leaving him out at night, I meant leaving him in my living room while I sleep in my bedroom with my door shut, the living room is very small. I certainly don't want him to get hurt though. thanks again for your help.

Gliders are small and can get into many things. They could easily injure themselves while you were asleep and you would never know it. It is much safer to keep the glider in the cage un;less he is being supervised.

Yea definitely dont leave him out unattended.
I had mine out one day and wasnt paying attenion and I looked down and Zia had a sucker in her mouth!! She has ripped the rapper off and everything.. THey will get into anything and everything. THey think of your house as a play ground.. Even if you are in the same room, sometimes you just have to keep a close eye on them.
