I have a recipe for paella and I wanted to know if this would be ok to feed to my glider babies maybe two or three times a week. This is what it has in it.

rice
lean hamburger meat (browned)
niblets corn
1 pkg frozen broccoli pieces
1 pkg hunan veggies

The hunan veggies include-- water chestnuts, carrots, red pepper strips.

I just wanted to know if this would be ok to give my babies.

Don't give them the pepper strips. Also, what seasoning/spices are in it?

There are no spices in it. I will take the pepper strips out of it.

I personally do not feed hamburger meat because of the higher content of parasites...howeevr I do use ground turkey...you could use that.

I would think the peppers would be too hot for them..but don't really know.

Mary
Even cooked thoroughly will the hamburger meat cause a problem with parasites?

Carolyn MacPherson's book? if so go to page 74 and check out the ca:ph ratios for those ingredients, and let me know what you decide from there.

What does the book look like I might have it. Is it green with a big picture of a glider and has the name barrons on it?

Red & Green BELL peppers are just fine for gliders.

Other types of peppers would be too hot. But if its a bell pepper, its fine and they like the red bell peppers quite alot in my experience.

Of course, if anyone else has more info than I do, please speak up. My opinion is based on questioning vets and looking the ratios up. I wanted to add variety to my glider's veggie portion of their diet, and my vets told me bell peppers are fine.

Ok beef and pork contains very high ammounts of parasites. Cooking it kills a lot, but not always all. Humans walk around with parasites in them and never know it...they have enough body weight that they never know they are hosting parasites. Many people will blame it on the "24 hr fly" or that food just didn't settle right. In some cases a person can become very ill because they are hosting too many parasites...at this point they go to the doctor. Most people do not go to the doctor for a stomache bug. In some cases people really do have a stomache bug...but a lot of stomach bugs are caused by parasites.

Now think about the size of a glider. They do not do well when hosting parasites. they arlready have low body weights. A parasite can kill a glider in a very short period of time.

For several years i refused to eat any beef or poek items because of the parasites. This past eyar I slowly started to eat some beef products, but I still refuse pork. I guess I decided there are so many unhealthy things out there, so a few parasites won't kill me.

I do not feed glider beef or pork because of the parasites.
