Wow, I am not sure if something this extreme would pass! Can you imagine not being able to legally own any type of non native animal, especially are suggies!!!!! Here is the site. What do you guys think of this? Error, missing URL.

mama2suggies4, I sent you a PM. I will say that you have absolutely NO REASON to apologize for anything. You and I are passionate about animals. This is a good thing. It is people like us and most of the members of this site and so many others that help change the lives of animals for the better. NEVER lose your passion!! And, ALWAYS get involved. If you don't, things get passed or happen that you do not agree with and once a law passes, etc., it is that much harder to change it. Good luck to you in all things and God bless. Hugs, Denise |

Charliestar, Sorry for the over reaction. I just love my animals. |

They can't even keep people in california from owning gliders there and they are illegal, you're exactly right. If it did pass it wouldn't be strictly enforced. |

Yeah, When I first seen this I told steve I would move to australia and he looked at me like um over an animal? Yes, I would move to australia to keep my babies! Plus, I could visit Rach and some others! :) And make new friends. Guess I would be leaving Steve behind... but hey lol |

Dearest Mama2suggies4, Of course I care. I have dedicated most of my adult life to animals of ALL kinds. I PROMISE you that this bill WILL NOT pass. I have been involved in various animal legislation for years. As this is written, it will NEVER fly and I agree that this is a GOOD thing. I was just addressing the bad rap PETA was getting by a few people. That is it. I am very familiar with the PETA organization and didn't want their good work to go unrecognized because a few people don't like a few things that PETA has done. I am sorry if I upset you. I would be the first one to stand between the animals and the government if this were to pass. I KNOW THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN THOUGH SO PLEASE RELAX. YOUR BABIES ARE SAFE. |

Well Alaska couldn't just give that money back to the federal government to be used on something useful, duh! lol. In the bridges defense, the 50 or 500 people that use it probably really enjoy it over the ferry. |

Nobody else found it funny that they had goldfish on this list? Goldfish.... lol. |
mama2suggies4 Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 08:22:26 PM
I guess that you do not really care that they are going to kill our sugar gliders. I also have chinchillas and guinea pigs that they will kill if this law is passed. You do not even have a sugar glider. You have cats and dogs so you are safe. |
charliestar Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 08:15:18 PM
Well, lets just say we will agree to disagree. I think if you would actually do your research, you would see that what they have accomplished is far greater than what you give them credit for. However, I doubt you look past your own uneducated opinion. I believe you are the one that wanted to euthanize your cat for some bad behavior so obviously you and I have very different opinions about the kind of world we want for the creatures we share this planet with. |

Charliestar I think PETA probably has some very good, very compassionate individual members that work their butts off to make a difference. But I see the organization as a whole as being defunct and having lost sight of what the real motivation should be. And the things they do may be meant well, but as they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. |
charliestar Posted - Apr 12 2009 : 10:31:14 PM
I understand you are passionate about your opinion Valkyriemome and others. I am not saying that PETA always makes the decisions I think would be best either. However, if you educate yourself about PETA's activities, you can not logically and rationally deny that they have done some real good for animals and animal rights and issues. No one is perfect and neither is any one organization. I am just saying that we can not disregard and impune an organization or organizations effectiveness over one or two issues. The fact is, they do help to a certain degree and anyone out there helping animals in whatever way possible is OK in my book. Animals need all the help they can get. I am just saying look at the whole picture and not just see the things you disagree with. I don't think that is making a fair judgment. |

not one of those animals are native if someone would come try to take mi suggies id be breaking out mi brothers and dads shot gun before tehy could get to the door! |
valkyriemome Posted - Apr 11 2009 : 08:32:27 PM
Peta does NOT make the lives of any animal better. To them "better off dead then fed" is NOT just a slogan. To release into the wild animals who have no chance of survival is NOT "bettering the lives of animals." To adopt animals from a shelter and then euthanize animals rather than see them adopt out to loving families -- and YES, it was a No Kill shelter - is not bettering the lives of animals. PETA does NOT do much of anything good. |
charliestar Posted - Apr 11 2009 : 01:15:04 PM
I completely understand where everyone is coming from. However, lets not lose sight of all of the good PETA has done for animals. Just like it was said that they swing too far one way, the remark that groups like PETA are not needed, I feel, goes too far the other way. PETA and groups like them, unfortunately, are needed because A LOT of people DO NOT do the right things unless FORCED to. I can tell you that this bill will not pass as written, so do not worry. However, I think they are on the right track. Hopefully, the end result will benefit the animals they are trying to protect and the responsible owners that have these kind of pets and love and care for them properly. This is just the beginning phase. In fact, if you research most bills that pass, the beginning process usually looks nothing like the end result. I know everyone on this site loves their pets and probably loves animals in general. Any group that is out there working hard to protect and make these animals lives better should be supported to a certain degree. To bash PETA over this negative issue and others that they have in their history, I feel, is counter productive for the animals we love. Sometimes, we have to give up some of our supposed rights for the betterment of the certain animal species we are trying to help. Just my thoughts. |

They might be able to stop the pet trade, but the day someone comes to my house to take my pets away, someone is going to end up dead over it. Perhaps these idiots need to focus on something more reasonable such as reasonably licensing the ownership of such animals so they can be tracked and managed and when one goes missing, people get fined and tossed in jail. The problem isnt the animals, the problem is the idiots that keep them, breed them, let them go. My gliders are no threat to anything. And if they did get out, I'd be the first to either capture them or shoot them in the head from a distance with a pellet gun if that's what it takes to comply with my license. What pisses me off about all of this is that people always think that people have to be protected from themselves. I say we all say to hell with this nation and move to Australia where politically correct means cussing in public and saying whats on your mind and doing no harm to others.
Kazko you could be my best friend. I love reading what you have to say. You are eloquent in speaking your mind. And Kyro we have plenty of asses here. Not necessarily the four legged kind. And it seems to me that I heard goldfish was a problem. I dont have time to read the article but I kinda get the drift. I will keep it on this page until tomorrow. |

This sort of silly stuff (on a vast array of topics) gets introduced as bills all the time. They never pass. It's all political and never serious. |
Goddessbaby Posted - Apr 10 2009 : 12:53:08 AM
on the HR669 I read it didnt say that. wow... they had it posted on glidercentral.net all they were talking about was the transporting, breeding and/or trading, not owning. that would truly be devastating on the US economy and how do you even go about enforcing that? |
Catman Posted - Apr 09 2009 : 11:14:20 PM
LOL Pigs, rabbits, dogs and cat are on the allowed list!!! They cause more damage then any other animal I can think of. |
lovely1inred Posted - Apr 09 2009 : 11:12:55 PM
Regulating and banning....oooo sounds like a firearms argument to me! The problem with PETA and every other militant-viewpoint group is just that, they have their head so far up their butt over being right that they can't see the middle ground, which is usually what is going to work best and satisfy the majority of people. I mean, who would in their right mind say that a 16 yr old is licensed to operate a 2000 lb piece of machinery without supervision? Still, every year teenagers learn to drive. When you phrase things a certain way, it sounds really scary, sounds like you are 100% right, when that's not necessarily the truth. And I'm convinced that if PETA could find a legal way to execute humans to benefit animals, they would do it. |
sunnypanda Posted - Apr 09 2009 : 02:35:11 PM
My husband wanted to know what I thought of this and all I could say is what all of you are confirming, they need to focus on regulation of breeding and ownership. I cannot imagine that something like this would be able to be passed, but I just thought that it was crazy that they are focusing on taking away animals instead of regulating it which is the problem in the first place! |
