As some of you know I have a 2 year old little boy. His name is Sean and he is not talking yet and has very bad anger issues and he has never really slept through the night matter of fact he don't sleep hardly at all I have been dealing with them for a long time and it is very hard because he isn't quite so small he is half my size already and when he is angry and throwing fits it is very hard to control him especially when we are out and about. Well his developmental therapist and his speech therapist thought he needed his ears checked to see if he had a hearing problem. So we went an hour and half yesterday to a hospital that would check him because he is so young. We did find out that he has severe fluid around his eardrums and they think they will be putting tubes in but we are not sure yet. I'm glad I found an answer I have been so depressed over all of this and stressed out about it because all he seems to do is scream and yell I guess because he is frustrated. we are needing prayer while all of this is going on I know its not major surgery or anything but it just gave me a big relief and I hope everything goes well and it helps fix some of his problems. So if everyone could please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Heather

Oh, I'm sorry that this crisis (and hopefully it's smaller than it currently seems to be). You and your family are in my prayers and I'm sending good energy your way. If you need to go find a private place for a good cry, please allow yourself to do so. It's definitly a healthy way of releaving stress. And then turn a smile on & keep your chin up. With today's medical advances I'm sure everything will turn out all right. :D

I know its been a while and though I no longer have my Gliders they are with a family that is taking very good care of them...she sends me pics of them all the time and she says they have been introduced to her baby which is 1 year old and my 2 girls were about 2 and they are all getting along great!
In other news with my son we have had some very big speech delays because of his hearing problems earlier and he is having difficulty with a lot of things...he has been diagnosed with a speech impairment called Appraxia which he will grow out of but its going to be a long road and lots of work right now he sees a speech therapist 2 times a week and soon to move it to 3 times a week...we go to the ear dr. on wed. to see if things on that end are going good i hope everything is still ok but i just wanted to let everyone know why i haven't been on much lately i do still love getting on here and reading everyone's posts i just don't always have time to comment and stuff!

so we had a hearing test done today! he passed with flying colors

they said his tubes look good and they put head phones on him and made him listen to what they said then point at pictures....he did wonderful she said she dont think he has any hearing problems anymore! im soo happy to hear that!

he is also doing well in therapy putting sentences together sometimes but his speech is still really slurred and he has problems saying somethings so he will need therapy through school too but thats ok he is starting to talk and it is such a blessing!

Heather-
I just read your post and I want you to know that you are one awesome Mommy. You will be in my prayers.

Just remember your son is here to teach others something important about humanity- you just don't know what that is yet. We all have our purpose on earth :o) Give him lots of hugs and kisses.

thanks everyone its been a hard road and now im having problems getting him to let me put ear drops in his ears that the doc told me to do for 3 days and 3 times a day.....the 2nd and 3rd time will be easy because i can put them in at naptime in the middle of the day and then again at bedtime but what can i do for morning....maybe i can take him to his g-mas house and she can talk him into it..its soo hard when he is a really big 2 year old and is half my size almost so but i will find a way...once again thank you everyone for praying and having encouraging words..i really hope this helps his hearing!

ok everyone the big day is on wed. at 7 in the morning...he is doing great with sign language and he is slowly saying some words but we had a hearing test done and he has fluid on his left ear and both of his ears are "popped" basically inverted eardrums....im worried about the surgery not because its surgery but because there is a chance the tubes wont fix his problem and he cant have any of the other ear surgeries until he is 3 and that will be in Dec. so everyone pray that this surgery of tube placement helps him hear right again! i miss hearing my babies voice because at 1 year he was talking a little and it just stopped! and for a long time everyone told me he had autism because it is in the family but i knew everyone was wrong and now i know what the problem is and we dont know if it can be fixed completely. i will update everyone after his surgery on wed.!

Thoughts and prayers to you, Sean and your family. I work with developmentally delayed students, as well as a sleu of other disabilities, and I'm learning more and more sign language every day- in fact, I plan on teaching my kids when they're little so they can express wants/needs before they're able to talk, and so they'll be able to communicate with others who use ASL. How's he doing with the signing? It must be relieving to an extent, for him to be able to have at least one outlet to use as a way to communicate. Best wishes for a successful surgery. Take a deep breath, it'll all be okay.
Rita Posted - Apr 05 2010 : 09:00:27 PM
Heather, sounds like you two are going thru a really difficult time. Im glad to hear the sign language is going well. Its horrible when you cant communicate your thoughts and feelings.

One thing I have learned this past year is: No matter what.....life goes on.
kyro298 Posted - Apr 05 2010 : 08:59:50 PM
I'm so sorry you are going through this but am also very relieved that there is an answer. He's probably been so frustrated not being able to communicate like he wants to. Not only did my daughter have tubes that young, my son also had surgery when he was 2. It's so stressful...on us. He was fine. :) Still sending lots of thoughts and prayers to you both!
bobnzoey Posted - Apr 05 2010 : 08:56:56 PM
ok so we go to see another specialist on may 5th i do believe and we did find out that my son sean cannot hear out of his left ear at all and has minimal hearing out of his right....they do now know if the tubes in his left ear will help he may need further surgery at only 2 years old....i know it is hard for him but with the sign language he is learning things are becoming easier for us as he is learning all the basics that he needs to be able to tell me what he wants so i ask for continued prayer for him and us as we go through this and i will let everyone know when his surgery is scheduled and what he will have done...because at this point we are not sure exactly what is going to happen
bobnzoey Posted - Mar 22 2010 : 09:37:13 PM
ok so we found out today that my son cannot hear out of his left ear at all and they dont think antibiotics will help anything and they cannot be 100% that tubes will help either but we are going to try we have an appointment to see an ear specialist in about a month and a half and i just hope that since its been going on for so long that it can be fixed because i noticed his speech going downhill around 18 months of age and hes almost 2 1/2 so its been almost a year since it started but the dr. told me there was nothing to worry about then and not it may be to late so i and really stressed out about it because i dont want my son to loose his hearing in one ear because the doctor wouldnt listen to me to begin with so we need prayer about it but the good thing is his therapist's are teaching him sign language for basic things so we can communicate somewhat and it is helping his frustration so i thank his therapists for helping us so much and making the doctor make an appointment to get his hearing checked!

Thoughts and prayers. I really hope that this is the answer for you both. HUGS
