I would rather buy or rescue. There are enough gliders out there. |

I have done all three. I have adopted rescues, adopted joeys, and now bred for joeys. All three options are wonderful as long as nobody is supporting mill breeders :). |

I adopted 3 of my 4 off craigslist. And 2 of them just had a joey. But Id prefer adopting. Ushi is my first and last breeding. |

Breeding is expensive! Rescuing is expensive! Buying is expensive! These are not "cheap" animals. I get frustrated when I see the "I want a sugar glider, but I don't have much money" posts! If you don't have much money - I suggest you get a gerbil or a hamster! They are cute, can be friendly, and are WAY less expensive! |

BREEDING is way more expensive. Ask any experienced breeder. The neutering of the joeys alone would be so expensive. Sons will mate with mom. Dads will mate with daughters. That's a whole new world of problems most aren't prepared for dealing with. |

i bought mine.. lol i didnt even mean too.. we were lookin for a girlfriend for are hedgehog and we saw these little guys and she had them livin in a little bird cage and i felt bad for them so i bought them with out thinking all i knew was they were going to live in a totally better place... now i would get them from a rescue and adoption would always be a option too.. ( i feel like i resuced them..) i wish she would sell me her breeding pair too cause i swear she is like a sugar mill cause she always has joeys for sale.. i want to buy them and nueter(sp?) him so they can live happy lives.. maybe someday she'll give in... |

i want a colony of about eight. we bought four, and i have offered every add in the state that i have a good home for their gliders if they give them to me or sell them very cheep. gas alone would usually be close to a hundred bucks. i wanted joeys anyhow so i will breed for the other four, then neuter. there are not a lot of sugars in my area that need re-homed anyhow. when i look for them about half are being sold from people breeding them and i would rather not pay them to over breed their babies anyhow, the rest just are interested in money, not where they end up:( they want a hundred a piece and up, (usually they are in pairs at least) so with neuters, gas, and what they are asking it would be like at least over seven hundred bucks if i tried to rescue instead. this way i only pay to neuter. |

We take in the ones that need a safe haven. |

adoption should be on the list. I'd suggest that for anyone who is interested in getting sugar gliders |
Ahsaehr Posted - Oct 14 2008 : 12:59:36 PM
I'd rather rescue and would rather talk other into rescuing. |

Since I don't have any gliders yet, I'd have to buy. :) |
