hey guys Im a new owner of two gliders. The previous owner told me they liked to eat boiled eggs, smashed with the shelI for extra calcium. Is this ok?

Sugar gliders do prey on small birds' eggs in the wild, so it should be a normal thing for them to eat the egg shell. I haven't fed Pine eggs with the shell yet, I'm saving that for a later time once I understand his eating habits a little better.

Don't know if this is true, but someone once posted that egg shell can scratch the esophagus or get stuck in the digestive system. Sounds scary to me.

If your glider/s are on a well known balanced staple diet, there is no need for extra calcium. In fact, to much calcium is just as dangerous as not enough.

When my guys have a junk food night which is any time I run out of staple and haven't made a new batch they get peeled boiled egg or scrambled eggs or another source of protein...but no extra calcium.

Your best bet is to get on a well known balanced diet ( if your not already ) for the calcium source so it's a measured amount distributed evenly throughout the entire staple.

Quail eggs would be an exception to eggshell as those can be fed raw. My guys have never eaten the shell when offered quail eggs so it's really not a reliable source of calcium anyway if they don't eat it.

They can eat the shell with the egg if you grind them all up together, I've heard of many people on this site doing that.
I tried to offer Tveit an egg once but he had no idea what to do with it, even after I made a small entry point.
It does get very messy though, and make sure they still eat their staple diet with fruits and veggies. I don't think people offer them hard boiled eggs more than a few times a month.
