I have had my 2 female suggies for 1 month. They are growing but I want to make sure I am not feeding them too much. Is there a rule of thumb to follow to decide the size of the portions? They are eating everything I put in there which leads me to believe that I should increase my portions but they look good.

you know, i haven't done this but i'm going to invest in a digital scale to weigh them. i don't like it when they have no leftovers, i get afraid i am underfeeding them- but i also don't want to overfeed them! so while the 1 tbs of fruit and 1 tbs of veggies is a good rule of thumb, it might make you feel more comfortable to be weighing them regularily, i know it's going to make me more comfortable!

If every morning after they ate, all the food is gone then yes increase it little. Rememmber they are like us in a way sometimes we eat alot and other times we don't.

I agree - if they are totally cleaning their plates - then you need to give them a little more. The rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon of fruit and one tablespoon of veggies per glider. Plus their protein source - which I normally give 1 1/2 tablespoons per glider.

A digital kitchen scale is great to weigh them. I try to weigh mine once a week. Weight loss is one of the first indications something isnt right.

I was making a mistake going the other direction. At first, I was giving them too much food. Normally, that wouldn't harm anything, but they can pick and choose their favorites, and ignore what they'd rather not eat - like their veggies.

I am a mean momma. My suggies will not eat veggies so I just gave them veggies last night and a little yogurt. They ate the peas, green beans, and carrots just fine
I tried scrambled eggs with shredded spinach mixed in and they ate all around the spinach
They do like lettuce so I put some mixed greens (not iceburg) in there and they do eat that.

I don't think that's being a mean momma! It does sound like a good solution to a common problem. I've heard of folks alternating veggies with protein one night and fruit with protein the next. Anyone have any input on this idea for those of us that have problems with our gliders eating either fruits or veggies?

That sounds like a good idea, never done it myself though.
But I have just learned that I am really overfeeding my babies. It's just so hard to fix so little. They always have leftovers, but they seem to eat a little of everything I put in there. Although, each one could be eating a different dish.

It is hard to tell who is eating what unless you see them.
