First off, sorry this is long.

A couple of months ago, while on vacation, I noticed that one of my girls had a large-ish bit of flesh on her tummy. It basically looked like her pouch had inverted. On inspection I then noticed that my other girl had the same thing going on, but smaller. I was able to gently massage it back in, but the next night it was there again. I was concerned, but unable to get to a vet until I got home.

Once I was home I checked them for several nights in a row and did not see anything, so I assumed the problem was stress induced due to vacation. But just last week I saw that it had happened again. So, I waited till the weekend was over and took them both in to the vet, even though the problem was not currently visible. She inspected both of them, and did notice white spots lining the inside of both of their pouches. So, she took a swab, and ran cultures. Turns out there was no bacterial and no fungal infection. The cultures returned nothing. The vet could not tell me anything at all really.

Through all of this both of my girls have acted completely normally. Their play and eating habits have not changed one bit, nor have their moods. They both completely ignore the problem. It was nice soft, dry, pink flesh that had obviously not been scratched, bitten, or over-groomed.
I am still worried though. Especially since the vet said she did not think that the white spots were normal.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Do I need to be as concerned as I am, since clearly neither of the girls are. Is there anything else that I ought to be doing?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight at all!

Sometimes, my girls will groom their pouches and a part of it will stay out for awhile. That is normal. BUT Ive never heard of it having white spots. If the vet did cultures and found nothing and told you not to worry - but you still dont feel good about it, go to another vet for a second opinion.

I would read over some of the threads on here for pouch issues. I do know for something like this you'll want to keep a close eye on it. Once this gets out of hand, it happens fast. In the other thread I saw, the female was cleaning and grooming hers like crazy. It seemed to bother her. She was put on antibiotics for it. I hope your little girl gets better though! I'm sure someone with more knowledge in this area will provide you with some advice. Keep us posted!

Didn't we just have someone posting about white spots in the pouch??? The vet also said they didn't find anything wrong?? COME OUT COME OUT WHOEVER you are!! Sorry I can't remember the posters name. I know it's a regular though. It sounds very similar to me. Except she never mentioned the pouch looking inside out I don't think. But the white spots sounds similar.

I believe it was glider34 - Tanner? His female had just had twin joeys and started over-grooming the pouch.

Thanks for the link, the photo that that poster referred to is basically what it was looking like. Except I am really not sure that it is from aggressive grooming because she seems to completely ignore it. I do spend quite some time with them at night and have never seen her even lick at it.

Maybe I am blind, but I could not find the reference to spots.

Oh yeah, and if it matters, my girls are about a year and a half old, and neither have had any babies. I just don't feel experienced or knowledgeable enough to breed them.

U might not. Mine groom themsevles when they wake up and sometimes when they are going back to sleep. If u are with them when they are awake they will tend to play and explore.
