My sugar glider has been making this really weird sound, it sounds like he's breathing in heavily then like a hiccup sound after. I know it's not the grooming sound, I'm very concerned. He makes this sound while he's sleeping and even while he's playing he'll stop in the middle of what's he's doing and just sit there and make this sound. Does anyone have an idea or advice?

Please take your baby to the vet. He may have a respiratory infection.

It does sound like a respritory infection and without vet care he will die from that.

I'm going to preface this by saying that if you are concerned get your baby to the vet.
Now...most likely what you are hearing when he stops dead and does it is he is calling for another glider...or you. Is he alone?
Here is a page that lets you listen to different sounds that they make.
http://www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?Sounds

Upper respiratory infections generally have a pop at the end of both the inhale and the exhale and it is with EVERY breath. The fact that he is only doing it now and then does not sound like a URI.
However, if you think that it's not normal please get him to the vet.

my glider was making a hiccup like sound about a month ago and I took him to the vet but he was all healthy, no URI. After about a week it went away and I never heard it again. I still don't know what it was.

OMG! Hearing those noises. Obviously someone cries in the pouch daily. I'm betting it is Kai after getting bullied by Omi.

Is he alone? My males make a wheezing sound followed by a clicking, only when another glider is near. I've taken it to be a 'come here' kinda noise. Never heard it sleeping tho

No he is not alone, he has a female in the cage with him. But he doesn't make the sound constantly, he'll do it for like 5 minutes then stop for like an hour or an hour and a half and then do it again. He also now has dirrhea.

I'm getting the distinct impression this is another drive-by emergency.

If he does it when the female is near it may be him just communicating to her. But the diarrhea worries me. Gliders can quickly dehydrate. Have you fed anything that could have given him diarrhea? One of mine gets it when I feed citrus, so I don't give them citrus anymore.

If it is because of what you've fed then I wouldn't worry but if you see no reason why he should have it then I would get him to a vet. Diarrhea brought on from something other than diet can be very dangerous and with gliders being so small it doesn't take long for them to dehydrate. Do you have any gliderade/nutraglider? If so then i'd make some up and get him to drink it. Preferably try and make sure he drinks some water but if he isn't keen then offer some fruit juice. Just make sure he has fluids in him until you can get to the vet. But i'd go sooner rather than later x
