My lovely glider Lola has started making this weird popping and wheezing sound suddenly.

I've had her for more than a year so I know it's not hissing, purring, or grooming noises. In all that time, she has never had a serious illness or injury requiring vet visits so I've never experienced the signs and I'm worried this is what it is.

She just sits on my chest and makes this whining wheezy noise while making the popping sounds typical of purring.

I'm worried especially because today she was jumping around the bathroom and she took a bad hit when she tried to glide across the room and hit the edge of a shelf square in the ribs instead of landing on it. She seemed fine afterward but now she is making this noise.

I took a video that has the sound she is making: http://youtu.be/QvzLyLG10D4

Any advice would be recommended. I'm worried about my baby bean.

I'm not a vet but if she started the noise after she hit her ribs she may have damaged something, if it's wheezing and not just popping you may need to take her to a vet. It's all up to you either way it doesn't hurt just to check (except you loose money but I don't think you would mind)

For some reason it's not letting me view the video, but how is she sitting? If she's sprawling out on her belly while making these noises she might be having trouble breathing. Wheezing and popping (not happy pops, but pops with each breath) can indicate a problem with her lungs.

I agree that it sounds like she hurt herself with that jump she missed. I would contact your vet and get her checked out in case she's in pain or did some damage. In the meantime, make sure she's still eating and keep her hydrated and as comfortable as you can.

Thank you for responding guys. She was sitting on her tummy when she made the noise. She's done it a few more times since then. At first after wiping out trying to Jump on the shelf I wasn't worried because she kept prancing around the house, climbing on everything, and eating like normal. It's just in the evening (several hours later) that she started sounding like this. She hasn't been to a vet in ages so I'm thinking this is as good a reason as any to go.
