The bottom tray is metal and fits well. I actually like the metal tray. I have used large round magnets in it to hold the paper down.
It did come with the flip up type latches which I changed out for window sash locks (requires drilling 1 hole for each half of the lock.
Original locks:
I replaced with these:
The only drawback on the cage I have is that it has lots of small doors - 4 on each side and one in the middle of each door.
Those small doors were designed to fit around a feeder cup and they bow out slightly. I added a small bird perch to each of these doors and use one of my twist on locks to fill the gap (which is only 1/2 inch but I was afraid my gliders would figure out how to get out)
The only time I have had an escape was the one night I forgot to put the twist lock back on.
The cage currently listed does not appear to have the small doors on the sides, just in the door. It is also 2 inches deeper so I will be moving my largest colony the 6 Rascals into the new cage, moving the 4 Animaniacs into the current cage and giving my new Mosaic baby Kanobles the Aviantelligence cage. (Mindy is with the Rascals but will be joining Kanobles when he gets a little bigger).
I'll post pics of the new cage as soon as it arrives and I set it up.
