Poll Question:
Ok, our one glider that we have ( the devil) yes we do love her.
was fed pinkies when young, i am woundering if this has anything to do with disposition, and biting harder, like eat your flesh biting. We do not feed pinkies to our gliders. I would love a vote on who may think this may promaote bad behavior, with biting.

Thank you!

Choices:

I feed my gliders pinkies and they do not bite.
i feed my gliders pinkies and yes they bite.
my glider used to be feed pinkies and bites
my glider used to be fed pinkies and dose not bite
My glider has never had pinkies
My glider bites, and it is not due to eating pinkies.
opinion: gliders would not bite because they like the taste of flesh

If you have gliders from diffrent situations, vote once for each glider.

I doubt that having eaten pinkies contributes to biting. This is similar to the misunderstanding that feeding pinkies makes gliders cannibalize their young; they do that for a variety of reasons, none of which is liking the taste of meat. Chances are your glider bites because she doesn't like to be handled, and only time and patience will overcome that.

i dont think that feeding pinkies would cause biting, I feed my dogs a natural raw diet and they do not bite or have a higher prey drive due to it.

My babies have never had pinkies and one of my girls strikes to bite when you way her up/try to take her out of her patch. She's my mean one.. she's a bit of a b***h, which we're working on. (She is a lot like *I* was at 16, but in suggie form; omg!!!!!!)

I'm not against feeding pinkies to your babies, but I couldn't do it. Mie bother me; even the sight of them.

My girls have never had pinkies but i've looked this subject up at lot. I believe they have better senses than to just think that every fleshy thing is meant to be eaten.... but perhaps if they bite to break skin....nah to much of a stretch.

My sugar gliders have never been fed pinkies and Echo tends to bite every now and then. So I doubt that feeding them pinkies would increase the chance of their "biting behaivor". Just like humans, sugar gliders all have differnet personalities.

for starters i've had a bearded dragon and if we just fed him pinkies he would want to bite our fingers because he thought we had more for him.But when it was not feeding time he would never go for our fingers. anyway my last two gliders one bit and the other did not...my two new ones one bits a little and the other does not so i think if they feel thretened thell bite even if ur not hurting them.

I have heard from a lot of people that female gliders are more likely to cannibalize their joeys if they eat pinkies since joeys and pinkies look similar.

this is a myth. someone discussed it in a comment above, but feeding pinkies has nothing to do with cannabalizing joeys. gliders know the difference and cannabalizing has to do with health problems in the joeys, environmental factors, the mom not ready to take care of joeys, etc. it will not affect the glider's rearing of her joeys if she eats pinkies.

Never fed any of ours pinkies but I do know to wash hands before messing around the pouch opening as last Thanksgiving, I had taken a small portion of turkey breast, shredded it up with my fingers and put it in a feeding bowl and was getting ready to get them out to feed it to them, when I ran my fingers at the top of the pouch (8 gliders in the pouch) and much to my surprise, one decided to bite and hold on to my finger. It is not some much flesh as it is just something that smells like food that can trigger a bite and that can just be to see if it really is food or not.

I fed my gliders pups (newborn rats) for a couple of years and they LOVED it! I found my snake a new home and didn't need to breed rats anymore other wise I'd still be doing it.

I feed pinkies and with the exception of one glider, they're all precious angels.
