I have been searching for a bff for Boo since our other glider passed away. I have found 2 adult males near me they sound to me like they are on pellet food since they come with a year supply of food and vitamins etc..I have not spoken to this person yet because I need to know some things..

1. Since they are adults and male and my Boo is only about 6 months old Will this be hard on her to adjust..(If they are not nuetured they will be)

2. If they are on pellets I plan on getting rid of them and starting them on the same diet as Boo with BML veggies and fruit and of course treats..so how hard do you think it will be to change them over? Boo came with pellets and she was so young she was easy to change and Peeka who passed away was so young she was easy also. I am a bit worried about them being adults..

Before I contact him these are the concerns that hit me immediately. I want what is best for Boo and She really needs a BFF again. I just do not want to jump in and do something wrong by her since I have gotten my gliders at such young ages I am not sure how the age difference and 2 Male/1 female will work. (keep in mind though would be nuetured before they share cage. This persons gliders have been together and are bonded so I am a bit worried.. I will be asking if he has vet records on them and who he is taking them to. Does anyone have any advice or additional questions I should be asking when I get a hold of him or if I should keep looking for a new BFF more her age and gender. I have only had females so I do not know if mixing them is good especially since I do not want to have little suggies..

Any thoughts or ideas or things I should be asking that I have forgotten would be appreciated on this..

I'm sure some others on here will post in a moment and give you more info and I can't go into detail as I have to get ready for work, but you do NOT want to put two males on with your girl. Look for another female. Or, if you're heart is set on these boys, then keep them apart until you pair the girl up with another female and then you MIGHT be able to get away with a colony of four. But this is a serious gamble. You would be better with just getting another girl or girls if you want a colony.

As far as changing the diet over, just go ahead and do it. I've done it with ten gliders through the years, and have never, ever had a negative experience. With the crummy diet they've been on, they will SOOOOOO love eating some real food!

As a cautionary note, though, I would be VERY reluctant to put Boo in with two males, neutered or not, because it is very likely that they will fight over her. Two girls and a boy, no problem. Two boys not related to the girl and a girl, generally a big problem. I do have one colony with two neutered boys and a girl, but one of the neutered boys (Miles) was neutered at 12 weeks, and he's never shown any sexual behaviors towards his mom. Thus, this little family seems to be just fine. I think this is more the exception than the rule, though.

Generally speaking, you want the number of girls to be at least equal to (or greater than) the number of boys in a colony.

You both have good points. I think I am going to stick with finding her another female BFF to hang with. I really do not want her getting hurt in a testosterone fight.

My husband and I discussed it and after reading your input on this we decided to pass on getting the two males and we are just going to concentrate on getting another female friend for her..Thank you both for your help on this..

Be patient. I found that tracking down a female in need of a new home was harder than finding a boy. It took me several months, but then in an interesting little twist it was two girls instead of one from the same home in need of immediate rehoming!

It is so hard to be patient..LOL.. Boo is so lonely. I got her from a vendor type situation and knowing what I know now I will NOT do that again. The only ones I seem to find are in Vegas and that is way to far..The boys I found were the first I located in about 3 weeks. I am freaking out that Boo will start getting depressed and start over cleaning and all the awful things you hear about happening. She is training me well though right now. Everytime she barks in the middle of the night I jump right up and go play with her. It is hard on me but It is also so sad that she has no one anymore to play with..But I am thankful for the input I recieved yesterday that was the main reason my husband and I chose not to get the boys. I was sad at the decision but the more and more I think about it the desision was in Boo's best interest and the right one to make..

Good luck I know it can be so trying. It will work out something will come along. Have you gotten a hold of LLucky glider?
I think I have read his rescues around there somewhere.

I got a hold of lucky glider about 2 weeks ago. I emailed with him back and forth him. Great people doing great things for suggies. They are 8-9 hours from me and I can't drive that far and I have a fear of planes of all things so I can't/ won't fly..so it makes it difficult..Wonderful people and I think everyone in that area should go through Lucky Glider to find/adopt there gliders..
