Process of building my glider cage. I apologize for my messy house-it's what happens when I get hooked on a project.

Completed!

Here is the new cage next to the old cage.

And here are my babies playin'. There should be four but I think one is hiding.

Oh wow, how much did it cost for all the supplies to make the cage.
The gliders look happy too in their new cage.

I should have kept track on how much it cost all together but I went to Lowes and Home Depot several times to get supplies especially since my car could only hold a few long pvc pipes at one time. I'm guessing it cost around $150 or so. I already had a role of plastic netting but needed another one plus I had to buy a pvc pipe cutter and a drill which were the most expensive things ($15-$35). It was a pain trying to find stainless steel nuts and bolts because Lowes and Home Depot were out and not very helpful. I had to go to a local store to get the hardware(who were very nice). I also had to custom make a wheel frame for my Raptor wheel. The entire cage is of a mixture of thin 3/4" pvc and thick 3/4" pvc because I wasn't sure which would be better plus the thin was cheaper. It is quite sturdy, roomy, and my gliders do seem to love it. Three stayed in the pouch at first when I put them in but my momma, she started exploring right away! :)

Love the pvc cages! You are going to want to add more zip ties. There are to much space between them. Should have one tie for every 3rd hole. To much space between them and you take a chance of someone excaping or getting stuck while trying to squeeze out. also what are you using for locks on your doors? I have not found something that I can use yet so I am useing zip ties for now. I have 2 pvc cages and my babies love them! I still have to build one more for my Third colony.

Sky Fire... Just curious... you going on your 3rd PVC Cage
Do you find the gliders try (and succeed) to chew there way through?
We have one chewer and one escape artist....
Amym... I was going to make hinges exactly as you did! as far as latches I have two ideas, bear in mind I have not built a pvc cage yet... I was going to place one stainless pan head screw as a backstop and one in front of the door frame placed so the pipe has to deflect slightly to pass it. If the door is long several stop and latch screws might be required. I had also thought of sawing through a pvc coupler longways ataching by either drilling and countersinking with a small flathead screw to the door jamb or gluing the piece to said jamb. Either way a little experimentation is going to be required.
Beautiful work you did on that! Now i gotta get hot and get one done myself! We ought to start a glider zip tie co op as many pvc cages as are getting built here!

Skyfire is probably right - I used nearly 900 zip ties lol. And I was still worried.

I have never seen mine chewing on the mesh nor trying to squeeze out. I have a zip tie on every 3rd hole or less depending on the area of the cage like near the conector and such. Even with the zip ties being as tight as you can get it they will still slide on the poll and the mesh is not hard so it bends. So you take a chance of them pushing on one spot till it makes an opening for them to squeeze through. I seem to remember a post a few months back of someones glider pushing through the mesh and ended up poping and eye out. I hate to see that happen to anyones glider. With having every 3rd hole ziptied the can't bunch it up and make a hole.
I did the nut and bolt hendges too and the doors move very nice that way.

sleighr: One way you can test the chewer is make a toy from the mesh and put it in the cage and see if they are going to chew through it. Or you could make a hospital/ travel cage with it and see if they are going to try chewing on it. Toy would be easyier. If the pvc cage is done right they should not be able to excape from it.
