So Fiona has been licking her "private part" nothing looks out of the ordinary. But today when I caught her doing it she was peeing and licking it... Gross I know and I'm sorry but I'm a little weirded out

So I'm sitting at the vet right now and she is saying she want to anesitize Fiona to do a full exam... I do NOT like this idea... Is this normal?

I have seen my gliders lick pee before...so I guess not as abnormal as you would think.

If your vet lightly sedates her to be able to handle her...that may be his/her method.

My vet did the exam while they were fully awake and scared. My female chomped him hard many times thru gloves and he said it did still hurt and she crabbed profusely...so I don't know, it may be less stressful for the glider. I don't like the use of anesthesia because of the risks.

If your not comfortable with it I would make the vet aware.

The first thing I thought was that she was possibly licking because she could be pregnant.

Thanks for your concern!!! Vet says everything looks fine! They did fecal and pee test. She tested to see if she was a diabetic... I'm not sure why.... But she's not lol. Waiting on poop test results!! Yes I was super anxious but everything is good. She said she didn't know why she was licking... Honestly I think I need a new vet... She wanted to gas Fiona to examine her. I don't NOT like the idea of putting her under just cause you don't want to get bit... But Fiona showed her- she was a perfect little angel

here's a thought...do gliders lick themselves when they are in heat like some other animals? perhaps that is what is going on? if so it should stop in a few days when she comes out of heat

How old is she? Some small animals are known to masturbate but this case usually happens with male animals.

one time i caught my boy doing the same thing! but WORSE.....he was pooping and he grabbed the turd and ATE IT

i was shocked and worried because ive read that when some animals do this its because of a vitamin deficiency but he's never done it again.

i'm still saving money to get two gliders fecal tests done. sadly, when i got my gliders i was given bad advice by more than one person saying that they didn't need any vet care. liars. so i didn't budget for this. i'm off topic now. anyways....good luck to you
