My sister recently got a sugar glider but is very irresponsible. Therefore, I am now taking care of her. She sleeps all day and is up all night. But I keep reading forums about having a pair instead of one. I'm afraid something might happen to her. I take her out and play at night or wake her up during the day. Since I don't want her to become lonely even though I feel like she is stressed and lonely. She does sleep and eat a lot. And just moves awkwardly around her cage. I just don't know what to do.

They are nocturnal. Up at night as well as sleep all day. Where are you located? Can you get her a mate?

Walking awkwardly around the cage concerns me. A well check up with a glider experienced vet would be a good way to make sure she is healthy.

What are you feeding her? A diet that is low in calcium may contribute to the awkward walk.

Gliders do not need a diet too high in protein but do need a diet that provides enough calcium to help their delicate bones remain strong.

Most gliders thrive on one of the widely used feeding plans that have a recipe for a nectar like staple that provides the protein, vitamins and calcium gliders need. The staple is fed along with a wide variety of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables.

If you are not already feeding your glider following the guidelines of one of these feeding plans, please look them over and choose one you would like to use for your glider.

Gliders do need a companion of their own kind to share a sleeping pouch for warmth and companionship, share grooming and as a playmate at night while their humans are sleeping. Make sure your glider is healthy and well nourished then begin looking for a companion for her.
